I know what it feels like to want to jump into the hobby feet first at the possible risk to your fish's health...luckily money was a big restraint so it didn't get over the top.

No sense in berating him anymore right now. Fish are already purchased and in his control. Only thing to do is to advise on the best course of action and hope that the message gets across so this does not happen again.

One option would be to put that extra money towards another QT tank so you are not contaminating fish already in the process. I know it probably wouldn't come close to a whole setup when you add in the equipment expenses but it would be a start. And once you can get everything as under control as possible you will always have that extra tank to be filled while acting under the ideal that in the future you will not buy too many fish at once for your QT tank to handle.

That being said I am nowhere near an expert on discus or discus behavior and if Wes is saying that the mix wont work, I would trust him on that...but that is my opinion and you are welcome to disagree with it...

Help us to help you by listing all your current setups, including any QT's as well as fish on there way and where these and the fish currently in QT are supposed to end up. You have a lot of recent threads on new fish, etc. as well as a sig that, if I remember correctly, does not list the most current stock. It would be helpful to have everything in one place so you can move forward and try to work with what you have.

Here is the list of all the equipment and tanks I have currently, I can easily get a 20G or 29G on CL here complete without stand for $50.

FILTERS

(2) aqueon 10 power filters
(1) whisper 20 filter
(1) marineland penguin 350 bio-wheel
(1) cascade 300 power filter
(1) eheim pro III 2075 ultra G 160G

TANKS
(2) 10Gs
(1) 20G
(1) 72G

and like i said, easily can find anything for dirt cheap here in SJ, CA.

Heaters
(1) 100 watt aqueon
(1) 150 watt fluval
(1) aqueon 50 watt
(1) 250 watt
I don't really use any of these during the summer bc the temp in the house is from 70F-86F.

Substrate

250lbs of black gravel, eco-complete, river gravel, and sand.

Lighting
24" regular fluorescent strip
20" " " "(but needs new starter)
4X54 T5 HO 48"(on my 72G)
lots of desk lamps which i use for my 20G, and spare 10

and thats it

tap water and RO

You forgot to list fish in each tank. I think it would be better to list everything by tank, for example:

72g Bowfront
X heater
Y filter
W fish

and so on

I should have been more specific but I meant fish-wise so we can help you with your ultimate stocking choices. As mentioned your current ideas may not work out as well as you think...

A specific breakdown of each tank's current stocking as well as a list of those on the way.

Okay

72G
eheim pro III 2075
4X54 T5 HO 48"
250 watt jager heater
14 harlequin rasboras
1 neon blue gourami
1 pair angelfish
1 trio GBRs
1 pair gold rams
1 pair ABNs
1 upside down catfish
1 emerald corydora
4 albino long fin corydoras
4 3" discus
4 yoyo loaches
1 clown pleco
2 SAEs

10G(running)
whisper 20 filter
no heater
10+ yellow shrimp
5+ tiger shrimp
4 baby danios(1/2")
12 angelfish(1")

20G
marineland penguin 350 bio-wheel
aqueon 10 power filter
100 watt aqueon heater
4 angels(1")
1 discus(1")
4 julii corys
3 green emerald corys
10+ RCS
6 green babaulti shrimp
12 blue pearls(in a breeder trap)
6 orange shrimp(in a breeder trap)
3 or 4 moth catfish

and thats it

the only fish on the way are 4 bolivian rams

so the only stuff i have left is

10G tank
aqueon power filter 10
cascade 300 filter
fluval 150 watt heater
aqueon 50 watt heater
desk lamps/other lights

and thats it, i can easily go buy a 20G or 29G if i need to

I know, it sucks. You start up a thread about your new fish and everyone jumps down your throat. The thing is, there are plenty of forums where you can post pics of your new stock and it doesn't matter what else you have or whether it's compatible, people will be all like "those fish r sick bro" and "cool fish! awesum" etc.

The people on this forum, compared to others I have seen, know more and care more...about the fish. They don't care as much about patting you on the back and making you feel good. They are not themselves teenagers (for the most part) and are not interested in pics of the pretty, shiny, new fish as much as they are more analytical of the aquarium itself.

Adding fish to an overstocked tank (I don't know if you are overstocked or not, because your stock list in your sig is not accurate...but if you have 4 angelfish PLUS the stunted discus in your tank, I would say you are) is not wise. If you've recently had disease issues, then it's not a good idea to add fish right away, especially unquarantined fish. Asking "is it ok to put a quarter sized discus in with a 3" one?" is no good if you've ALREADY done it. See what I mean?

I know you're young, and have limited resources...not just money, but space. I know your parents probably don't want you to have as many aquariums as you need, in order to keep all the species you would like to have. However you have to curb your enthusiasm a little, and take a step back and realize that there is plenty of time to keep all the fish you want, if you stick around in this hobby. I have been doing this for 9 years, and I've kept all different configurations of fish. If I'd started right off with everything I wanted, I would not be in this hobby today because it wouldn't have worked, and I would have probably been discouraged enough to quit.

It does seem like people are being hard on you (and yes, perhaps unnecessarily unkind...and unconstructive) but we are just concerned, really. You are obviously smart and capable - I mean hey! I don't think I've ever made $200 selling anything besides supplies. That's a lot of money to someone your age, but rather than spend it all at once (impatience) and get the fish you want and rush them through quarantine, or skip it altogether (more impatience)...do what is being recommended, and just take a deep breath and chill :)

Again, you have years ahead of you. There are people on this forum who started keeping fish even earlier than you did, and are still keeping them now at the age of 60+. So really...you have your whole life ahead of you to try all the different species, provided you don't shoot yourself in the foot by cramming everything you want into the space you have available and making a royal mess of it all.

sorry, that list was my plan, but its screwed up, my current is above;)

thx for making me feel better:)

yeah, i do know i was very impatient on the spending of the money i made, i do have lots of other money, but I have saved that up($700+) in my bank in case of anything i really want like my new bike and dirt bike. Trying to chill, but if i don't get any info, im just gonna stop with this forum for a while. I think everything is fine as is. i actually bought these things because

we were supposed to be in the new house right now, BUT

the inspection showed something wrong with the foundation(very weird, considering the house was built 10 years ago, even the owners were shocked).:(

What about the new fish/shrimp from the LFS?

What are your plans for all the smaller angels and danios?

IMHO that 72g is well over stocked, especially accounting for the territorial needs of all those cichlids. If any happen to kick into breeding mode at the same time your tank will be in big trouble. You need to do some serious thinking about which fish you want and can also realistically care for...
