Kids arrested for killing catfish

These kids are pieces of crap, but so what...not like there aren't 50 million other juvie jerks running around doing awful things to all manner of living things.
I doubt they will be punished much, if at all. Expelled and possibly made to pay a fine (or rather, their parents). Maybe some community service...yeah, ok.
They may be pyschopaths, but they may also just be incredibly immature. Salt on snails, crushing toads under rocks...kids outgrow these things, except some not so much. I just hope someone DOES keep an eye on them. I would definitely sentence them to probation, for their own good as much as anyone else's safety...but who knows what the final verdict will be.

I agree with Mark on this issue. Beating any animal with a hammer is a sick act. Obviously they enjoyed the act since they killed 31 of them.
That's not the same as breaking into a building, and then stabbing and brutally killing a BUNCH of them. Granted, kids that age will do stupid and awful things, including killing animals, but this is above and beyond it.

Personally, I find the thought of "Putting down" children to be overly cruel and downright sick-hearted. They are, you know, children... I would "put down" any human that could "put down" children...
However, I do not think the children should get away scotch free. I would punish them by A) some form of probation, B) some form of legal paperwork that prevents them from owning or caring for animals, and C) some form of jail time (so they get a taste of what will happen if they do it again).

The only humans that get "put down" are convicted felons on death row (probably living in Texas). So no worries about the budding psychopaths being euthed.
Do you think the punishments you listed above would be appropriate had they been bludgeoning puppies and kittens with hammers?
