A Matter of Perspective

It's confusing I know.... but remember "blue" and "red" are just terms, just meaningless words. Teach someone to call "red" "blue" and it is blue to them. But that's another debate. The person with the messed up perspective wouldn't know, because red would called something else for them.

Red = green, blue = red, green = blue, yellow = bown, brown = gray, gray = yellow, agreed name = perspective color.

With no color actually missing a name, the "messed up" perspective would be incapable of knowing that what they see is different. The discussion on the site I was on was saying that everyone sees a different set of colors but call them the same thing because they have been taught to.e
It sounds to me like the idiots who started that discussion want to have it both ways. They rightfully claim that we all perceive things individually, then attempt to claim to know that we all perceive things differently. By their own logic how could they possibly know?

Make up your mind! Are red and blue words to which we have attached meaning, or meaningless?

and then color blindness enters the room
That was my thought exactly!!

I can never make up my mind :headshake2:

So would you perceive that as a meaningful or meaningless point :D

I don't know you well enough to make that judgement!

Between blue and red of course!
now i've got kids, so of course i have flash cards. i spent a good portion of last night with a red triangle card and a blue hexagon card and i simply could not find purple. i think i'm going to try to get some sleep tonight and try again. with the new package (the wee one) arriving at home today who knows... i may just still be delusional, so i'm not so sure how this is going to work out.

i believe my perspective may be skewed for a while... as well as my sanity.

absolutely! i was just thinking "where does purple fit in all of this?".

Actually both should see purple correctly.... even with reds and blues reversed, you'll end up with purple when you mix the two colors (regardless of perspective). The problem comes when you toss yellow into the mix...one will properly see green while the other sees orange.

That poor person with the bum perspective is going to get really warped at some point.

FINE, I was hoping for a "my mind according to Sub" :raspberry:

What about the colors that are "blended"? Like I say "I love that blue shirt" other say's..."No, that is purple not blue" who is right on that one when I KNOW it is blue...and is american cheese yellow or orange?

Now I want to mix some paint and see what colors we see!! Maybe a good "project" for the day, go get some paint...have the kids (and me of course) mix em up and see what color everyone see's...I can take pics of each step and post em to see what ya'll see? :thm:

That depends on your point of view :) I personally think that the world itself is meaningless, and only has meaning in that we gave it something to mean. If we chose to change the name from "blue" to "Blurple" (you get the point) those who had never known that "blue" meant "burple" would consider "blue" to be a meaningless word. Imagine if a group of people were born without the ability to see color. All the names of the rainbow, in fact, rainbow itself would be meaningless to them, for they have nothing to attach the word to.

First off, those "idiots" were smarter then many people here, secondly, they are my friends, don't insult them please, and thirdly, that was the point of the discussion. It's a matter of perspective, it can't be proven true or false. They keep their minds open at Sporewiki, which is something many have trouble doing, both here and elsewhere I've been.
