Marineland Eclipse 12

@Jannika, you found 10g glass tanks at Walmart? I've been looking for those to no avail. At $29, I'm still balky - I remember them being about $15. I just can't make myself pay that though it may be indeed a good buy. Update: I just found the tank only, no kit, online at Walmart. It says limited stock at my local store.

They weren't on the website, but I noticed them when I went in to pick up a 5 gallon kit, which was $27. The 10 gallon glass kits were only $2. more, but it's a matter of space and weight. I normally wouldn't pay that much for a ten either, especially with Petco's dollar per gallon sale going on.

Just saw them at my local Walmart! The 5g glass tank is $27.xx, the 10g is $29.xx. They do use incandescent lighting, which we all know can get hot.

Can anyone vouch for quality of the tank or the Aqua-Tech filter?

Back to the OP, how does this tank stack up to the Eclipse 12?

So many options to consider!.........I think the eclipse 12 gallon would be best suited for the office, because it is an integrated system, easy to maintain and so forth and perhaps great for novice tropical fish keepers. I think in time I would like to move up to a bigger tank. I found a site that retrofitted the lighting on the eclipse 12.....http://fishingforcomplimentsblog.blogspot.com/2010/12/beholdleds.html, if your handy at upgrading this would be awesome. Its getting a bit pricey after retrofitting the light.
and yeah the warranty would be jeopardized. The warranty is good for two years for the eclipse 12.

Not a fan of the filters, but if I am thinking of the same tank kit that they sell around here I am currently using the 10 gallon tank my parents setup when I was 5 years old and threw in a bunch of goldfish

So yes, the tanks themselves are fine at least 15+ years into the future even. Probably would change filtration depending on your stocking.

CFLs can most certainly be used instead of the incandescents. I have added up to 27w daylight bulbs and was using 2x23w Sylvania mini bulbs. Not nearly as hot. My tank is unheated and for the most part still stays around room temp.

You could find a cheaper 10g on CL if you can settle for used.
