What About 8G JBJ Nano Halfmoon Biotope Tank?

Strong currents and big fins are a bad combination. The fins in that situation act like sails and will force the betta to expend much energy in order to keep itself from being blown around. It also causes undesirable fin developent, and can encourage bent rays. Like was mentioned earlier, throwing a sponge or a nice chunk of water sprite or something similar in front of the return flow can help diffuse it. Also, one would have a really hard time keeping 5 Otos well fed in an 8 gallon tank. Amano shrimp would be a much better idea for algae control.

I've come to regret the purchase of the JBJ Nano. The filtration was so noisy (it's in my bedroom) and too strong for my betta that I had to purchase an adjustable internal power filter.

The media tray had to be left in to block the holes in the back so my fish wouldn't jump out. But two days ago I came home and found him dead in the try. It wasn't deep enough that he could breathe. It was also too tall for the betta (18"): he had to struggle to get to the top from the bottom to breathe.

I might give it to my mom so she can have the neons she wants.

I have had very good results with the following setup with regards to keeping a single betta:

2.5g tank from petsmart, no substrate

Red Sea Deco Art Nano Filter stuffed with an aquaclear media sponge cut to fit the media compartment

Tetra HT-30 Submersisble Heater (perfect size to fit in the tank)

Cheap and effective means of housing a betta in a heated and cycled tank. Haven't had any problems with just once weekly water changes either.
