Would that work? Took out the hatchets and 1 of each rainbowfish.

I think your stocking is fine. But 4 T5HO bulbs seems like a lot of light with no CO2.

Okay, worked out some bumps, the tank is a "go". "Go" because it will take a very long time to set up.

The plan is this: buy the tank/stand combo, set up in my basement. Leave it there as I collect what I need for the current stock (1 Canister, 1 light strip, 1 heater, substrate) then put the 40b stock in it. Gather up the rest of the equipment over the next year in the following order: canister, heater, light, decor, fish. Boom, I'll be able to say by my 19th birthday that I have a running 75gal tank. Will cost me about 2grand when finished, but I won't be upgrading or altering it for years after that, so it will be money well spent. I'll post a build thread when I get the 75gal tank and stand.

I figured the fish would produce C02, and besides that I like the more powerful lighting. I hate my current lighting, crappy little light for a 20long trying to light up my 40b. That's why it's not planted, because of lack of lighting. Anyway, the 75 won't have a lot of real plants, but enough to make it interesting. Maybe I'll get a CO2 system when I'm done with everything else, maybe not. Depends on my POV at the time.

Have you purchased the lighting yet? There are websites that sell significantly cheaper lights with the same effect. Check out aquatraders.com and fishneedit.com

Also fish do not release significant amount of CO2. You would need to start dosing seachem excel or using CO2.

With ample surface agitation the most CO2 the water will be able to hold is something like 2-3 ppm...very low in comparison to the recommended 20-30 ppm for those with high tech setups.

I agree that 4 bulbs is going way overboard, especially without CO2. A 2 bulb T5HO fixture is going to be more than enough.

Okay then, I'll stick with 1 48in light.

NO?
