Mafia Games....

What is the evil elf to townie ratio?
Not sure yet, and I probably won't tell once I figure it out. There will be at least 3 though, the Grinch, a communicating evil elf, and a non-communicating evil elf.
Lab I have it in my notes that last game both PRs actually tried to hit Rudolph (Noods) but nothing was sent in on Santa. Based on the rules I think that Rudolph just takes the hit if either Frosty or the scum go for Santa.

I wouldn't be against doing it the other way just that either way if they target Santa and the Rudolph role turns up it will act as a free invest on Santa. Maybe just change the rules so killing Santa doesn't mean an automatic scum win?

It was modeled after the President/body guard roles in one of the very first games. Only thing was that there were two scum teams so the hit on the body guard could be played off as the one from the opposing team. Neither side would know.
Thanks Pappy! I'm going to have to think about what to do. It may play out fine like it did last time.
While we are discussing game rules for the next one thought I'd provide a little teaser for #99...The ACville Files...

The townies...the innocents, the doctor, the news reporter, and the rocket scientist.

The conspiracy theorists...the disgruntled government worker, the psychic, the blogger, and the mad hatter.

Can the town stop this crap once and for all (yeah right)?

:evil_lol:
Nice start, can't wait to see it!

I'm going to make it so Santa will always show as a regular innocent if investigated by the scum team. If the scum team gets lucky and hits Santa, Rudolph takes the hit, then scum team can hit him the next night and it's a scum win. That's the only way I can think of to keep the power balance between scum and innocents.

Revised game format:

Mafia #98: The Grinch Returns

Game Mechanics

1) Each game day everyone in the town has to vote to lynch someone. You vote by saying (in bold)… I vote to lynch so and so.

a. You must vote each day,but you cannot vote for “No One” or for yourself. If you fail to vote, you will die an untimely death.

b. If you decide to switch your vote, state in bold you are doing so and the new vote. (I retract my vote on XXXX, and vote to lynch XXX)

c. Do not put your vote in your signature.

2) Whoever has the most votes gets lynched. If you have two and everyone else has one vote…you get lynched.

a. The priority of night time happenings is:

Town Lynch
Grinch's Hit
Frosty’s Hit
Jack’s Nip
Untimely Deaths
Investigation Results

b. If multiple people have the same number of votes, I will use a coin flip to decide who gets lynched.

c. Investigations will reveal specific roles as given by me to the player.

3) If you do not vote daily, then you will die an embarrassing death. UDs suck, don't do it.

4) Everything stays in the game, no PMing people and setting up deals or alliances, or discussing issues in this game on other sites. The sole exception to this is the authorization by me for special role players to do so.

I STRONGLY SUGGEST THAT AUTHORIZED PEOPLE COMMUNICATE VIA AN OFF SITE MESSAGING BOARD LIKE MSN/AIM/ICQ.

5) You can say whatever you want in the game, but you can't 'prove it' with my PM to you.

6) The Grinch and his elves win when they outnumber the Innocents or Santa is killed.

7) The Innocents win if they lynch the Grinch and all his elves.

8) If you have any questions, PM me. If it's important to all I will post it.

9) Once again, no one, unless authorized to do so, are to discuss the game outside of the thread. That's kind of the point. If you are discussing things, then everyone else doesn't get the benefit of your deliberations. Think town hall rather than internet chat room.

10) Do not edit your posts! KEEP AFTER DEATH POSTS TO A MINIMUM!

Roles

The players are residents of the North Pole where there is an evil plot to destroy Santa, his workshop, and Christmas…forever! Santa has used his magic to shield the identities of those around the workshop in order to flush out the scum who wish to ruin the happiest day of the year.

Santa, an Innocent
, is on a mission to rid his workshop of the evil elves trying to disrupt the work needed to get ready for Christmas. Santa has one investigation per game night to find the evil infiltrators. Santa is also in communication with his trusty bodyguard, Rudolph. Investigations are required to be sent to me before nightfall occurs. If Santa is investigated by the scum team, he will show up as an innocent townie.

Rudolph, an Innocent,
is out to save the day, and help Santa. Rudolph has the ability to protect Santa from the Grinch’s hit or Frosty's snowball. He can do nothing about the Townies lynching their jolly leader. As teammates, the two can communicate outside the thread.

Frosty the Snowman, an Innocent, is a soft-spoken resident of the North Pole. However, he possesses a dangerous snowball that will instantly kill the person it is directed at (it’s a very icy snowball). If Frosty is found by Santa via investigation, he can join the innocent team.

The rest of the innocents are Santa’s elves. Their life’s work is at stake and without Santa they would be stranded without a home. They too are on a mission to get rid of the Grinch and his henchmen and do so by lynching a player every nightfall. Each innocent elf has their own minor role that could help guide them through the game. Only the player will know of their ability.

The Grinch
has a heart two sizes too small and is completely rotten to the core. He has hated Christmas for as long as anyone can remember. The Grinch has continuously tried to destroy Santa and the merriness he brings to good little girls and boys. He is in control of evil elves and is currently in communication with all but one of them. The Grinch can attempt to find the lone elf as well as other players’ roles through nightly investigations. The evil elves can hit one townsperson per night. If the Grinch is killed, the team loses their nightly investigations.

Jack Frost, is a mischievous spirit who simply wishes to last the winter. He has the ability to “nip” one person during the course of the game. If he chooses an evil elf, they will turn good. But if an innocent elf is nipped, they will become an evil elf without immediate connection to the Grinch. All non-elf players are immune to the “nip.”

If for any reason you need to leave the game, please PM me, do not post it in the thread. IF YOU POST THAT YOU QUIT YOU DIE AS SOON AS I SEE THE POST. NO EXCEPTIONS. YOUR ROLE WILL BE REVEALED. I don't care if you recant the quit you will still die.

"In the game you will get accused, grilled, made to look like an idiot, and a hundred other things. Remember that it is IN THE GAME. Do not take anything personally or make personal attacks. Anything said out of line will result in removal from the game."

Sign up will go up later tonight.

bumpity...bump, bump, BUMP :grinyes:

Sorry, been running behind here...let me know if you see any issues with the rules. Sign up will be posted asap.

Mafia #99 –The ACville Files

The great town of ACville has endured many REAL threats…mafia, zombies, werewolves, witches, and genetic anomalies…however none have been so threatening as the made-up, the FAKE. Will science eventually rule supreme?

Game Rules:

1. Each game day, everyone has to vote to lynch someone before nightfall. Your vote must be stated in BOLD.
ex."I vote to institutionalize _____”

You cannot vote for no one or yourself. If you fail to vote you will die an untimely death that nightfall.

If you decide to switch your vote, state in BOLD you are doing so by stating "I retract my vote on _____ and vote to institutionalize _________".

Whoever has the most votes will be lynched; in the event of a tie the loser will be randomly chosen.

2. The priority of night time will be as follows:

Disgruntled Worker’s blackmail
Institutionalization
Doctor’s protection
Conspiracy theorists’ hit
Mad Hatter/Scientist’s alteration
Psychic/News Reporter’s investigation
Blogger/News Reporter’s report
Untimely deaths

3. Everything stays in the game, no PMing people and setting up deals or alliances, or discussing issues in this game on other sites. The sole exception to this rule is the authorization by me for special role players to do so.

4. You can say whatever you want in this game, but you cannot prove it with my PM to you. However, please stay "in character," as no role claiming is allowed. Any disregard for this rule will result in a mod-kill of the player involved.

5. If you have questions, PM me or ask in the game thread. If it is important to all, I will post it in the game thread. I prefer PM for game issues.

6. Do not edit your posts for any reason.

7. Please keep after death posts to a minimum. No revealing any additional information. If you are dead, you are dead. Dead players previously communicating with any teammates will still be allowed to chat with their team in their respective den.

8. THE MOST IMPORTANT RULE. This is a game, it is meant to be fun. In the course of the game your words will be twisted, misinterpreted, and taken in various contexts so it important to realize that the group of players here are generally good natured and mean nothing by it. Do not take anything said in game by anyone to be a personal attack or insult. If you feel that you are being personally attacked or insulted let me know and I will take action if I feel it is necessary.

9. In the case that unforeseen circumstances arise I reserve the right to alter or amend rules in order to maintain the game as needed. Again, if you have issues please speak to me in private.

Game Roles:

Townies: You win when all of the conspiracy theorists are eliminated.

Innocents: ACville has once again been infested by an evil threat. Your mission is to eradicate it by voting to institutionalize someone each night.

Doctor: Fresh out of medical school you feel obligated to help save the citizens of ACville. Before each night you may PM me a name who will then become immune from the hit. You cannot stop the lynching and you may not save yourself. You may privately communicate with the News Reporter if you are found via investigation.

News Reporter: You have the ability to snoop through the background of the citizens of the town in order to root out the threat as well as publish headlines in order to communicate what you have found to the town. Each night you will be granted an investigation result on the person of your choosing. Only alignment will be revealed. The headline may not contain any names or abbreviations linked to any specific player and must be in 10 words or less. The investigation and headline may be sent to me at any time prior to nightfall.

Rocket Scientist: You have the power to alter one person’s mindset throughout the course of the game and thus have the ability to change a conspiracy theorist into a normal townie, who will no longer be able to communicate with their team. If used on an innocent there is 50/50 chance that the information overload may kill them, so choose wisely. You may use this power at any point in the game. If the News Reporter finds you via investigation you may communicate with them.

Conspiracy Theorists: You win when your team controls at least 50% of the town. Each night you can hit one player as a group. You may communicate with each other outside the game thread.

Disgruntled Government Worker: Your previous experience with the endless filing of paperwork allows you to one time change a vote that is submitted by any townsperson. In order to use the blackmail you must PM me the name of the person who shall receive the blackmail as well as the person who they must vote for. The receiver may not reveal to the town that they have been blackmailed. If you die your team loses this ability.

Psychic: You are the member of the conspiracy theorists who is able to predict the future. In reality, you are just very good at guessing. During each nightfall you have the power to gain the knowledge of one player’s role. Only alignment will be revealed. If you die your team loses this ability.

Blogger: You are the member of the conspiracy theorists with the best typing skills. One time after the third nightfall you are able to submit your own headline that will be revealed to the town in place of the News Reporter’s headline. The same restrictions still apply. If you die your team loses this ability.

Mad Hatter: You are the member of the conspiracy theorists who makes the best tinfoil hats in town. You have the opportunity to give a hat to one player at any point in the game with a 50/50 chance of turning that player into a conspiracy theorist. If used on an innocent PR then the player will be killed instead of turned. If the player is turned they will have no special power. If you die your team loses this ability.

Untimely Deaths (UDs):
Please don't sign up if you are not going to play as it just ruins the game for everyone. Again, you will die a humiliating death if you do not vote every game day. If you must remove yourself from the game please PM me and your role will be revealed the next nightfall. If you post that you are leaving then I will take that as an official death request. No exceptions. If you are a player with a history of unacceptable UDs then I, as mod, reserve the right to not allow you as a player.

Pappy, can we use the words "Evil" "Mafia" "Scum" or "innocent" (and any words that are blandly referring to the team/role) or is that against the rules (or going to be)?

That's not the same as RCing. Obviously everybody tries to appear innocent but no PRs can come out and state their role blatantly.
