I have a large critter tote that I am going to use as an aquarium. I have filled these with water before so I know that it can serve the purpose for housing fish/aquatic critters. I am stuck as to what I am going to put in it. Please vote or give more ideas for this tank. Also, anything in this tank should be fairly hardy and not too picky to feed.

Java moss or najas grass with red cherry shrimp and red ramshorn snails. All are "fairly hardy and not too picky to feed". You wouldnt need a heater either. Small sponge filter or even an airstone would be fine.

Hmm, tough to choose one. the frog would be cool maybe even two of them. But idk much about them. I would say the rcs and snails, or a betta. I voted other bc I cant decide even though it isnt my tank.

I vote Betta, planted with some moss. :-)

If you want something thats not a picky eater, dwarf puffers are out. They can be extremely finicky, some accepting only live foods. And paradise fish get too big for a 5g IMO. Frogs are really fun, but do require frequent water changes because of how messy their food is. They also have other requirements that differ from fish. My fish guy frequently has some of the most beautiful bettas I've ever seen (so much so that it took me a good hour to choose Shogun). If I had another 5g, I'd get another betta :D

Also, there are multiple reasons they recommend not using critter or reptile aquariums for fish. They might be able to hold water for a few weeks/months, but they dont hold water long term, and some dont use fish safe seals. Make sure you're 100% positive that your critter tote is safe for the fish before you use it.

I think Risigan means one of the 5g versions of this.

also sold by penn plax as the delux sponge bob fish tank (I guess it says 4g. My local meijer (like walmart) has their brand of this thing that says 5g.
