Has anyone tried to open or flattened out and attach to decor if so what was outcome like the look of the velvet style it has and want to put on a piece of driftwood but if if isnt going to work don't want to buy them and try thanks.

I opened mine up, some people use fishing line or mesh possibly to attach them to things.

I opened mine up and set it on top of a piece of driftwood

It just sits on top, my tank is pretty low flow it's only rcs and some neon tetras. I don't know if they will grow and attach to anything, they grow fairly slowly.

ok so if I want to cover a piece of driftwood I should buy several of them and attach with fishing line and just leave it and see what happens then?

That would work, you could also look at some mosses, they would probably fit your ideas better. Java and flame mosses would be good ones to look at.

How did you get to stay on substrate without floating to the top as far as those other mosses I really dont like the looks of them thanx.

I have some tied to driftwood and laying on the bottom of a tank. It doesn't seem to attach well but could be a symptom of it being a slow grower. As far as it staying on the bottom as long as it isn't pearling mine never float.
