Hey guys,

So after searching long and hard online and on forums for cheap possibly dividers for shrimps, i found nothing cheaper than reg. dividers so i purchased those for my 29G tank...all is fine, and i set up the dividers(2 of them) around a month ago, only have fire reds in that tank right now so the other day i was looking in the "empty" slots of the tank......in which shrimp shouldn't be able to get into and i see at least 50 baby RCS in them, meaning they got in somehow, prob. through holes which are 1mm in diameter...now im unhappy as i have 15 blue pearls, 10 snowballs, and 25 malawa coming in tomorrow:( no worries about malawa as they can't cross breed, but for the others:(

any solutions, ideas??? not interested in ANY type of foam UNLESS it won't reduce flow by a lot, isn't thick, and is under $20 for a decent size...

thanks! plz, anything would be great:)

Thanks, TFB

You can make your own divider made to fit directly to your tank. The materials to do it are cheap enough. All you need is the mesh you want, and the hard pieces, Idk what they are called, but they are parts to presentation flip books. The ones with the paper sleeves. Sorry if this didn't help any.

Sorry to hear. Just house them maybe in those hanging breeder nets for the time being. Only thing is if you finally get another tank set-up and they breed, you might loose some of the babies in the net. I did that long ago with rcs before moving them to their own tank. Just turn the netting inside out so all the seams are facing out. I believe those nettings are pretty fine to not let any escape. My adult shrimps were fine.

Why don't you try buying the tutu faberic net at walmart. $1-1.25 per yard. I use it for my fishes. Even the fish fry can't go through. I would just tie them down to your divider that you have with fishing line. It might just work. Last year I brought some tutu faberic net to cover my daphnia rubber maid stock tank from dragonflies and I am still using the same net. I also wrap it around the filters inlets or water pumps to keep it from sucking up my fish frys. The net is cheap but it might work.

I used the nylon window & door screen material and plexiglass for the frames. Sealed everything with tint and mold inhibitor free silicone. It's a little late now, but for future reference, it's best to put permanent or semi permanent dividers in an empty tank.

You should also start cycling a large plastic tub. They're handy as a QT or nursery tank, and really cheap. You just need a sponge filter, preferably a used one, and some substrate from a healthy cycled tank, to jump start the process. That way you can keep potential cross breeding from happening.

yeah, i was going to originally do that, but the mesh i found(the smallest even for windows) still had 1mm holes:( meaning same size as divider....i think those pieces are plastic spines? maybe i'll use those clips and some other material? thanks!

i do have 2 spare 10Gs so no need for that:) but trying to compact and lessen number of tanks/tubs or anything holding fish...will try that though, i might have to:(

i have 3 of those and even the largest at 1/2 gallon isn't good enough, i used to have snowballs in there but they started dying off until i moved them into something permanent and larger...same issue there though, the babies can get through easily:(

Just get some fine netting like they use in breeder nets and silicone it to the dividers you already have. Even baby shrimp shouldnt be able to get through that.
