My name is Sarah and I am a new fish mommy. My boyfriend bought me my first FW 20 gal last year on Christmas and it has been quite a learning process. I have Gouramis, Black-skirted tetras, and a common pleco. I am planning on purchasing 2 or 3 clown loach, but I want to be sure I know what i'm doing. I plan on moving up to a 75 to 100 gal by September so i'm trying to master my little tank before I go down that road. I would love to receive any advice. I'm glad to see people who love their fish just as much as I do! :newbie:

first off welcome!!!

the clown loaches will eventually get too big for a 20. even though you plan on upgrading its best not to get fish that will need upgrading bc things can happen. the common pleco is also not a good idea since they get HUGE. also what kind of gouramis are they? most of the time multiple gouramis wont get along forever.

Thank you! :) I think I am going to wait until I get a bigger tank for the clown loach then. I have 3 red dwarf and 1 power blue and 1 yellow dwarf. I am DEFINITELY learning my lesson about the pleco. He/she has gotten so big in just the past 2 weeks haha

Welcome to AC. Yes, the Pleco can get up to 12" long. I have mine in a 100 gallon aquarium and he is getting huge. I wouldn't add any more fish until you upgrade your tank and have the space to do it. It is always best to look out for the health of the fish.

have a backup plan for the gouramis. whether it be a tubberware container and a sponge filter or a 10 gallon quarentine. usually males dont get along.

common plecos very often grow larger than 12 inches. i personally would rehome him. tank upgrades have a habit of not happening, and you wouldn't want to cramp that poor pleco in too small a tank for life.
