This is a new NatGeo TV series. They appear to be more professional than the people from Tanked. In the episode that I saw I was amazed, for the first time I saw a display tank that was stocked correctly! I like it do far.

I haven't seen it yet but I heard it is good and actually more educational thank tanked. I've heard some bad things about the way they treat the fish on tanked specifically from someone who was at the taping of one of the shows (I think it was the dentists office one and all the sharks died.)

But back on track. I hear FTK is excellent and I will be checking it out

Meh, it's entertaining. I like the Marlin Stadium idea, pretty crazy!

Both shows have great ideas... Just neither shows create suitable set ups for fish or any living organism to live inside of them. I feel bad for the inhabitants.

My dad recorded tanked for me a while back thinking I would like. Oh my god those people are just terrible to their fish and show no regard to cycling or any other practices they just go and throw in whatever looks best.

That's because at their level you don't cycle a tank. Any aquarium can be setup without being cycled. Even at the level seen on this forum people do it all the time.

As for the stocking, yeah Tanked was bad at that. I haven't seen Fish Tank Kings but I have seen plenty of their work first hand. They get the same criticism (they've done some of the Rainforest Cafe setups, for instance). But the problem with stocking at their level is that it is all about making the customer happy. And in these cases the customer is almost never interested in anything more then a decoration. Which means the customer isn't going to understand arguments about proper stocking and compatibility.

These shows are fun, and have some really neat ideas....but clearly, this is going to do to the aquarium world what Cesar Milan has done to the dog training world. Showing people a bucket full of blue hippo tangs that have been "acclimating all day" and then pour and presto! Aquarium done! IS A REALLY BAD IDEA. FTK seems like a more educational show, but still....have you seen some of the ignorant "NOW! NOW! NOW!" clients with huge wallets they work with?!?!? I turn people away every day for being an ignorant, psychotic dog owner when they say "I'll hire you, but this dog better be perfect." Nothing with living things is perfect. One of the greatest flaws of the human being is needing and seeking control in things uncontrollable.

They're fun shows....but ENTERTAINMENT should be all you get out of things like this. Much like the Border Collie rescue crisis a few years back ...everyone bought one 'cause it matched their carpet and drapes. AN ANIMAL IS NOT DECOR.

Excellent topic to bring up!

I think the staff of tanked are a bunch of idiots.. Their Jersey accents and their idiocy's make me want to punch babies. Fish Tank Kings they seem to know more about fish keeping.. I havent had the time to watch a complete episode yet.

I haven't really watched Fish Tank Kings only because I was tainted by watching Tanked. Tanked gives the audience the wrong perception that fish are expendable and there only to make the owners happy. The put fish in environments that they will clearly outgrow quickly and take the attitude that when they do outgrow it... to bad you are gone. Owning a fish, dog or cat is a lifelong commitment and you need to do what is best for that animal. They take the Wham, Bam and Thank you Mamm attitude about owning an aquarium.
