That's a loaded question. You're going to get as many suggestions as there are makes and models. Though you're going to see the higher priced heaters suggested more often, for obviously they are USUALLY better quality. You get what you pay for. But that doesn't mean there are not good cheaper heaters too. I try to read reviews from various sites to get an idea on how good a heater is. Just Google 'whatever model' review. For example, search for Hydor reviews. I have a couple of those and they are great and reasonably priced.

I have a Marineland Visi-therm that I really like too. It holds an accurate temp. I got a Eheim Jager that works great also. (the drs. you know who have them for the best price I have found).

So basically there are a lot of good heaters out there. I'd stay away from Tetra and off brands. Other than that, just pick the best price you can find unless money is not an issue and go with one of the high end digital therms.

Well, I have to back track on the off brand suggestion. I actually got a good heater from Ken's that was so cheap I was afraid of it at first. But it's a nice heater. Called Pro-Heat. Their 300w is only $11.75. Ken's doesn't sell junk and he is highly respected for his customized food. So if you've never tried his food, that would be a good opportunity to place an order for a heater and food and save on shipping. He also has a Via Aqua titanium heater with an external digital display for only $30 or so. I haven't personally used that one but I think that will be my heater I get for my new 40B when I get it setup. The Deep Blue shatter resistant Heatstick is an awesome heater too at an amazing price.

So are you confused yet? LOL
