Just a PSA for anyone who uses a python or other direct fill method. Always dechlorinate the tank before adding water. Last weekend I almost killed off my entire peacock tank in less than 10 minutes. I was refilling and hadn't added Prime yet. It had been less than 10 minutes, the tank wasn't even done filling and I noticed the fish gasping for air. I quickly realized my grave error. I hit the tank with 2x the amount of Prime, turned the filters on to oxygenate, and crossed my fingers. Amazingly I only lost 2 (half of them were upside down, I thought for sure I was going to lose them). It was still a sad and expensive mistake.
I'm sure it was the lack of dechlor upon refilling that caused this issue. Several weeks prior the same thing happened in my random cichlid grow out tank, but I attributed it to toxins released when I cleaned out the holey rock since it had a lot of crap in it. I ended up losing a bunch of my juvies, my copadichromis, and a compressiceps.
Figured I'd share my mistakes so others don't make the same ones. I was amazed that it made a difference that quickly. I just did wc today and had no problems since I Primed each tank before filling.
