I feel the same way. I am so comfortable treating the buckets of water with conditioner before adding to the tank, knowing that all of the water has been treated. I wouldn't be comfortable adding untreated water to a tank even if there was conditioner already in there!
Summer is also a time when they shock treat many water systems with higher doses and usually with the opposite of what they normally use....if on chlorine, they go to chloramine and vice-versa.....

It's probably not on a time schedule but more when temp hits a certain level I bet. Makes me wanna test my tap water from time to time more often when it gets extra hot to see if it has been treated more. The more chems in it the more prime is needed too to neutralize them

That sucks Ally! I just pulled a 5 gal bucket packed solid 3/4 full of Goldfish from a customer's pond after they were topping off without dechlorinating and forgot about the hose. Can't wait to see how big my pumpkins get this fall!
I'll definitely keep using my python, I'll just be very sure to pay attention to add dechlor before turning the water on. I've not had problems before, but I just got sloppy. Unfortunately, my fish paid for it.
I used to be able to get away with using the hose to fill the tank. Id just add the correct amount of Prime to the tank before refilling and i was good to go. However, a while back my city changed from chlorine treated water to chloramine, and for some reason that seems to effect my fish much faster than before. Now i use the bucket method and let them sit for 20 minutes or so before adding the water. I was in a rush today and forgot about it while refilling my 55 and just used the hose into the tank and lost 8 of my 14 Neons, 4 Harly's, and 3 Golden Pristella Tetra. It didnt take long for them to go either. I had only put in maybe 5 gallons before i saw them all gasping at the top of the tank. I dumped in another full dose of Prime and stopped the water but it was too late. Within 30 minutes i had lost 15 fish. Im still mad at myself for making such a stupid mistake. I havent lost a fish due to carelesness in years now so i really bummed me out
