Yay! my dad had to run into work because the power keeps going out (like 10x in the last two days). It isnt his store, it is the power in the entire area. They brought in a semi with a trailer that has a train engine that powers a generator that connects into his store and makes sure the power doesnt go out.
When he went in, I asked him to check if they had ammonia with no added things. He found it! The one store we didnt check had it. Now I have to read up on how to fishless cycle because I only have a basic understanding.

I hope I never have to do a freshwater fish less cycle because I already have a lot of seeded media now but I think that process would be very interesting.
Good luck with it. Get some safe start. It should cut down on how long it takes. I've heard of fish less cycles taking months and I'd go nuts if that happened to me XD

I am using some media from my 10g that is cycled. But it is only 1 guppy in the 10g so there isnt a lot of bb in there, let alone the 29 now. Just trying to grow a big colony of it before I put any fish in. It should go pretty quickly.

And mine bubbles. It just says amomonium hydroxide on the back and is called "meijer clear ammonia" (meijer is the name of the store). So it has some sort of soap or something that makes it bubble to clean better. Mine defiantly doesnt have any fragrance to make it smell nice, that is for sure. I already dosed a little bit, then decided to watch a video (I know, smart me). I thought I had it down after reading the sticky about it.
So, is it true that this will actually be really bad for cycling? If it is, what can I do aside from a 100% water change? I will be doing around an 80% one when the tank is done cycling, but that is normal. Can I use this and at the end do an 80% water change, then the next day or later that same day do another large water change? Guess I might be finding my way to the ACE tomorrow to get some normal ammonia (gonna shake the bottle first).

Well I guess the good and bad news is that I dosed it almost right on the dot at 5ppm. Cool because it was a total guess since I couldnt find any numbers on what others used to cycle a 29g tank. Bad, because it probably has that soap in it and the more there is in there, the harder it is going to be to get out.
I got mine from ace hardware and asked someone who posted a how to on fishless if ti was the correct stuff since I was not sure and the bottle said contain 10% ammonium hydroxide...She said it was correct and i even just gave it the shake test and no bubbles.
Well, I guess I have to go to ace tomorrow.

Fish stores should just carry this stuff. I dont care if it is 3x what it cost at other places, I would buy it there if I 100% knew that it was the correct stuff.

It might just sit in the garage in the bin of chemicals. (not mixing or anything, just a bin that we keep everything so we know where it is).
I might be able to bike up to a dollar store that is personally run that might have some that isnt scented. It might take more than one bottle, but if they have it non scented and it doesnt bubble, I might just have to get it.

you're going to be doing enough water changes it wont matter. Read the label, it will tell you what's in it.

So as in water changes through the process or at the end doing a big one and then another one the next day?
