Lost fish

Right this is the 3rd day of 90% water changes, there is only 6 fish in there. One pleco, 2angels and three cardinals. The nitrite and nitrate are through the roof, how can the nitrite be so high with such a low stocking? I hope this doesn't go on much longer!!!

Did you maybe kill off the bb when you did your WCs? I did that once, put a little too much chlorine into the tank and wiped out my filters. It's harder when you use a hose and have to dose the was several times (assuming you use a hose).
I think I have wiped the filters, how long would it take for them to recover?

If you did wipe the filters then your tank is basically cycling from scratch. In freshwater that usually takes 2 weeks I think? Maybe more, maybe less, but I've always given it 2 weeks for a tank to fully cycle. If you did wipe the filters, I suggest either moving the fish into another tank or switching some media from an established tank into your filters to help them recover.
I am not sure it is from scratch as the tank is creating a lot of nitrate at the min, I hope it's just a mini cycle.

sounds to me like its just trying to play catch up.... if there was ALOT more ammonia in the water than normal that would lead eventually to more NitrIte and NitrAte... so i would say its possible you still have your Bacteria but not enough to process the amount of Ammonia and NitrIte immediately
