Where's the "freshwater slacker" forum?

Very nice! Good looking sev & cute gold nugget on the glass, looks like he needs to grow into those lips. I've always wanter to try keeping them but expensive hiders along with their reputed delicate acclimation have kept me away for now.
Yeah they sure are good at hiding. It sucks. I had no issues with them moving into the tank at all. Smooth sailing. Just never see them :(

Beautiful tank and fish! I hope my red shoulder grow outs turn out as pretty as yours! What a looker!
I almost got a second one. They've had a few very tiny ones at my LFS. Well they've grown out for a few weeks now and I could see the one was gonna be a red shoulder as advertised and be very pretty. Went up to get it, and someone JUST bought every sevrum in the tank :(

Thanks everyone for the comments. I wanna go with live plants. I've seen so many gorgeous planted tanks on here that I wanna dabble in it. Nothing serious. Just low light, no CO2 bs. Idk we'll see.

Also think I need another bala, because I hear they like groups of 3+, correct?

Yes, balas are schooling fish. They ideally would like 6+ but, they get very large. You have a large tank, but you also have lots of occupants. 6 12" fish would be a lot for that tank with all the other fish in it. One more would probably be fine though.

Yeah I am pretty under stocked right now but I think 6 12" balas would put me over the edge haha. Plus some of my fish have some growing to do. I'm gonna get a third next time I find a decent sized healthy one at the LFS. These two seem as happy as can be though.

im just jealous of the size of your clown loaches.

REALLY nice tank!

Since nobody else noticed, I guess I may as well be the one to ask the dumb question: How the heck did you get the driftwood to stay put in that position, lol!?

The cat picture brought back a memory. The christmas before last, the 180G in the family room was still under construction. It was on the stand with just substrate in it and no covers. My daughter had just adopted a cat to keep in her apartment while she's at school and brought him home for the holiday. When it came time to start filling the tank right after the holiday, I was walking by the tank and noticed that the substrate looked "disturbed". When I got the stool out and got my head above the rim of the tank, I knew exactly what happened. It had turned into a satellite litter box over the holiday. After getting out what I could, I realized it may have kick-started (maybe poop-started?) the tank's cycle. The stand has a wide tile rim around it, and when he comes home for visits, he strikes very much the same pose, except with a dozen or so angels flocking around him.

Your severum will decimate most plants!
I keep forgetting about that little hellion. He tries to eat my plastic plants so I can only imagine.

The driftwood is screwed into the top cross brace plastic. And that's a funny story! **** cats.
