My Discus Pictures

Lights are on, FTS as promised. Again not something I am proud of, but it works for now. Lots of Crypts, some huge swords, and a few stem plants kicking around. I managed to kill off the more delicate plants.

Yesterday the sunset came in through my little 1' x 2' basement window and lit up the fish, so I thought I would take a few more pictures!

I like the half in sun, half out of sun look on this Virgin Red:

Lovely photos !
As for your scape - nothing wrong with it. Give it some time & of course those plants should grow out very nicely - you could add a backgroung to your tank - think it would improve the look.
At least it looks to me like you don't have a background - isn't that the wall behind the tank that shows through the glass ? I could be wrong - maybe I'm just seeing things the wrong way.

Heh, the background is a picture from Hawaii that I took a year ago or so. I just blew it up huge and taped it to the back of the tank. You can see the palm trees in the middle, and the other half of Maui on the right. I think that is the island of Lanai in the middle, its kinda purple.

The image is pretty subdued colors, but I thought it went well with the tank!

That ring pigeon blood discus is gorgeous! I also really like tye picture with the discus half in the sun and half out the sun. Beautiful fish and tank ! Thanks for sharing

Solid. You'd get a lot more color pop if you had a black backing.

The only problem with that is the discus try to blend into their background, and will darken up with a dark background. The pigeon blood especially will do this, so or now I am sticking with lighter colors.

One thing I am working on which should enhance colors (and help the plants) is to add 6 red LEDs to the tank. That should really make the colors pop on the fish.

I've maintained several planted discus tanks over the past few years, and have not had any problem with either fish colors darkening, or peppering, using a dark background, AS LONG AS the substrate is very light-colored.

My tanks have usually had a dark blue backgound, using white pool filter sand as the substrate.
Have a look if you care to:

The first set of pics has a group of 3" juvie Red Snake Skins, while the second set is an assortment of older juvies and near adults.

Here is what I found yesterday when I came home! Eggs!! I'm not doing anything special to save them, and I don't expect to get any fry, but still it was cool 36 hours and most still look good. The parents take turns feeding and defending, so that is cool to watch!

PS- It is just a crummy cell phone pic, but good enough to show the results!
