So petsmart had a sale on roseline barbs this weekend for $5 and I decided to pick up a few. Now that they're home and acclimated, one of them seems to be a little "off." Some were banging against my acclimation box and I guess he could have just injured himself. However, it looks like it might be more of a deformity. Any input would be great.

I'm not an expert on roseline barbs, but it could have been underfed as well. I've noticed fish get weird body shapes (similar to a bent spine/TB look) and then look normal when adequately rotund.

In any case I'd just keep an eye on it. If there's an internal injury or if it's genetic there's not much you can do anyways except cull...which is rather premature at this point.

I always assumed that fish with that bent spine/TB look, that it had to do with inbreeding or poor genetics. I agree with jpappy789. Feed it well and keep an eye on it to see if it improves.

Same here. One of my purple passion danios looks like that. Has since I got the group - only 1 out of 12. The condition has not changed and I have had them over a year. Good luck.

I have seen this as well. I bought a dozen Odessa barbs and two of them looked noticeably different from the rest when I got them home. In fact, I could consistently pick those two out from the rest of the shoal. I fed them all a steady diet and now that they are all properly eating (they would probably all eat till they burst if I let them) the two with odd body shapes have become "normal." Their colors and energy have also greatly improved.
