225g aquarium stocking

You *can* add them now, from what I know they're less aggressive than most cichlids, similar to discus. That said, if you can wait on adding them till you have a few schoolers in the tank so they are used to other fish being all over the place it would probably go better. I haven't kept angels in ages though, so I'm basing their aggression off of when I last did, so if anyone knows better or has more accurate info feel free to share :)
 
That sounds like a good Idea, I just thought that with nobody to compete for food with the Angels would adapt to the aquarium more easily and feed right away.

But then again I remember reading that if you overfeed them they will die, which is I`m sure how I lost the other one that I had. So having more tankmates would make sure they eat less right?

Are there any fish besides the ones mentioned above that should absolutely not be kept with Angels? I know fin nippers are obviously out of the question.
 
If it isn't a fin nipper and won't fit into the angels mouth I *think* that they're ok in the tank with them, especially with so much space to avoid the angelfish if they just don't get along well for any reason. This said, fish like those Chinese/Siamese Algae Eater (the ones that go after the slime coat of fish as they get larger, can't remember which is the issue) would be avoided since angelfish have a large surface area like goldfish and thus make a good target. Other than that I've no idea if there are any individual fish that just can't be kept with Angels ever.
 
I have seen that angels smaller than a half dollar tend to be more delicate than older fish. And while angelplus has done work on improving angelfish strains there is still a lot of the inbred stuff out there. The thing that seems to be lost in a lot of the "puppy mill" angels is behavior, the fish can't raise their own brood, and sometimes can't figure out how to even fertilize eggs. So quality is an issue. Even if you get some angelfish that grow well, I'd think you would be more happy with normally behaving ones.

Do a google search on the angelfish virus, I think it is something you need to be aware of if you are interested in angels and and a few other cichlids that have problems with it.
 
So this Angelfish virus only affects Angels? or other similar fish like Discus or Festivum?
It doesnt sound like it would be a very nice thing to deal with, but with all those people that keep angels right now I think it is a risk I would be willing to take. Especially since I have wanted to keep angels for quite some time, for about 10 years actually.

So I should go for individuals over a dollar coin in body size, do not overfeed and pick healthy fish ?
The one I had that died before I am pretty sure was overfed because I fed him a lot when he was new to make sure he would settle in, He didn`t show any of the angelfish virus signs luckily.
 
Got my first Hardy plants, two small Java Ferns.
I attached one to a split in the driftwood. its sitting in there comfortably on its own, and there is good water movement on that section of the tank so the leaves are gently moving

Just want to say, a large school of rainbowfish would look EPIC in a tank that long... anyway, back to angelfish. I honestly don't know about size but if you're tank is stable and you acclimate properly there shouldn't be any issues regardless of size as long as the fish are healthy :) Though you should aim for them all to be similar sized fish.
 
Thanks Fishfriend1, I got hold of 3 small Angels today for a really good price, they are all healthy and I`m just testing the waters to see how they do in my aquarium.
One of them is constantly cruising around very inquisitive, the other two are a bit more subdued but they are still adjusting. I followed the proper acclimation procedure so I have good hope for them.
Hopefully after these guys have been in my tank for a little while and show no signs of illness I will look for a few more fancier ones to add with them. I have seen Altums in my city a few times but I`m not sure I would feel good about them crossbreeding, plus its baby steps right now haha.

Got a few bala sharks to school around and now with the new fish my corys are all over the place, swimming all levels of the tank and foraging as groups. The addition of a few schoolers really brings out their characters.
So far everyone is getting on great and after I know all my new fish have settled in and feeding well I would love to get a school of rainbows.
Australians are the only ones I can get at a good price, so I could afford quite a few of those, the other species have a pretty steep price. Turquise an new guinea at 15, and boesmanni and Irian at 30 each. the aussies are only 6 each

Altum angels are my favorite angels! See how everythig goes with the angels you have now and then decide if the altums would be a good choice. You are worried about crossbreeding but with the balas and other angels in the tank, i highly doubt any babies will survive.

Thanks for the kind words, One angel is more outgoing than the others but so far the tank is going extremely well.
I was thinking of going for a group of 7 or more Angels and have them as the centerpeice fish. So maybe I could throw a few altums in the group too. I will cross that bridge when I come to it haha.
Loving these little angels so far though, The tank looks pretty empty but I can watch for hours unlike when you have a few really big fish
