I get mad when petsmart does it, because it's select tanks only. Usually 10g 20l and a couple others. But a 5 gal is still $12.99 :S
Yeah, Petsmart's dollar/gallon sale is a joke. PSP's isn't bad, but it only includes 10,20,29 and 55. Petco is the only one that includes the 40B any more. My local Petco goes through pallets of them during the sale.

It depends. It is not always an upgrade due to the odd size of the 55 compared to the 40. The 55 is longer, taller, but really skinny and with less floor space. For the best compromise I would suggest you not upgrade the 40 to a 55, but ADD a 55. She can't argue with you upgrading - just tell her it is a new QT tank.
Saw a couple 40g Breeders at my local petsmart a couple days ago and they were $40.

Aren't 40g usually the same foot print as a 55g but shorter? Double stand it! Put the 40g on the bottom and 55g on top. Depends on which 40 gallon you are talking about. There is 3 different ones: 40 breeder (36x18x16), 40 long (48x13x16) and 40 high (36x13x20). The breeder is probably the most widely used, the long and high version are so odd, I would think someone would mention that. I usually think of the 40b when someone simply says 40g.
