Black emperors

Nice. As far as small schooling fish go, I've only intentionally spawned white clouds. That was a pain in the behind because they were so tiny, especially when you're used to cichlids. Only 3 or 4 made it to full growth.

How many do you think you have now that you've reached this point?

Still about a dozen or so, hard to get a full count. Theyre in a 4 gallon tote with lots of plants and a thin sand bottom lol

Ive counted 14 all at once, but could still be more.

I lost another adult, one of the large males, to dropsy, not sure why but he also didn't respond to treatment for it either.

Yeah they didn't seem to work well with the cories, targeted their dorsal fins and the plecos too. Would start hunting them in packs and even when the cories all hid in the corner or under leaf litter the barbs would purposely look for them just to nab them. Its a shame because theyre such a beautiful and interactive fish and I really liked them, but husband says no to another tank, so I have nowhere that they could have gone where they wouldn't have done the same thing all over again. If they kept their nipping to themselves id be fine with it but you go after tankmates on purpose, then its a problem.

The Emperors are sassy, I got mostly boys with my order lol but their disputes aren't physical outside of chasing and they don't bother the other fish. Just each other. Theyre entertaining, more so out of any tetra we have had. Flashy and have a lot of spunk, at the same time aren't causing trouble.

I'm gonna miss the barbs begging for food every time they saw me. They had the most endearing little faces when they did.

But you can see one little brat sneak up on the cories here

What species of Corydoras do you have in the corner? CW028 ?? I would love to get them but in Mexico it's complicated.

Interesting that they have red eyes while the parents have green (female) or blue (male)!

They're at that stage where they're starting to look like fish instead of a glass sliver with eyes. Won't be long now before they're out of that danger zone and you can actually stop babying them a bit.

Are the red eyes that show up in a few of the pics a true depiction of the color or are they artifacts of taking the pics?

Actual colour. Can see their colours better now they're behind clear tank glass/acrylic than inside an opaque tote lol

The stage of infusoria type feedings is the most stressful for fry raising for me after theyre on the brine shrimp and larger foods... so much easier lol
