Hi everyone!

I have a 90L(24G) Aquarium which I have a 100W Fluval E series heater, but the heater is struggling to keep a stable 25C temp, the ambient temp of the room is 16-18C(I have a chinchilla) I was advised by Fluval since I need a 7C+ increase I would need the 200W model but they are happy to exchange it at no cost, I wanted to ask if it safe to use a 200W in a 24G tank???
The Fluval rep said it was safe and it would just mean it needs to heat up less but wanted to make sure :D

Would very much appreciate some advise.

Thanks

That 100w heater should be about to easily maintain 10deg above ambient / room temp on ~24 gal of water. I wouldn't go 200w for that small of tank. I

+1. The smaller tank with heater with high watts is bit a overkill where small tank will heat up faster, when it fails ofc.

Hi L Luchia , I also think a 200W heater would be too large for your small tank.

Can you provide some more info such as does the aquarium have any type of lid, where is the heater located in relation to the filter and what type of filter are you using and maybe more important, what type of thermometer are you using?

If you really need that much of a "bump" in room to tank temp, I think I'd go with 2 smaller heaters...with 1 set slightly lower than the other to try to prevent overheating...cooking fish with a stuck on heater is much more hazardous than 1 that doesn't heat. With 2 you have a back up...for a while.
