I am going to change the title of this thread and start making progress in the tank I will see if the filter works over the next few days and if it doesn’t I will pay for a new one

I am thinking of buying one to sweep the substrate and get a power head instead of dumping all my money into a ac 70 cause my tank has improved darastically since the water change
If you go with a new filter, check shops for used ones as well as the online sites I mentioned. I’ve found awesome deals that way. If you need a powerhead for circulation, I’ve used these and they’re as good as the expensive ones
Since you’re using your own media, any hob will do, I have a cheap Chinese hob from eBay that I stuffed with rings and sponge and it even has a little skimmer on the intake, it’s been running for 4 years and I paid around $20 for it.
They do, it just all depends on the courseness. I would use a progression of sponges from course to fine.
