2 electic yellow questions

I am guessing it is in the breeding lines of the fish. I have 6 labs right now, and they are 3 males to 3 females. Some of them are bright brilliant colors, and some are starting to show the grayish/brown colors on the laterial lines. I will end up getting rid of those ones and keeping the bright colorfull ones. It is just a thing you get with labs. So if you want a colorfull one pull that fish out and go get some more, and hopefully you will get a colorfull one.

Your fish looks to me like a juvenile yellow lab. It is losing its color because it is stressed out.

Liv2padl is on the right track. If you want a breeding colony, then it is recommended 3-5 females per 1 male. However if you are just interested in keeping beautiful fish, then several males (5 or more depending on tank size) should do the trick.

How large is your tank? I can make better recommendations of how many fish you should have in there if I know the size of the tank.

For the most part, it is generally better to overcrowd african cichlids. When you do that, there are more targets for the dominant fish to pick on. When its one on one, the subordinate fish will get chased and picked on relentlessly and usually to death.

The mouth/snout shape of this fish (basically the entire area forward of the eyes), appears different from what is normally seen in yellow labs (in my opinion). This area should be extended a bit and more 'pointed' and is typically formed by the time the fish is an inch in length.
