What are some fish I can house my betta with?

In my 10g I used to have a male betta which got along very well with a few shrimp and a couple ADFs. Very amusing tank but it really depends on the individual betta, I've heard of bettas tearing apart all their tankmates then I heard of some which were kept with tetras etc. So I'd experiment with the shrimp first then work your way up. Thats just my experience with it though.
Good luck

Tetras, platys, guppies with short fins, basically anything with short fins will more than likely be safe. Just stay away from long-finned fish, gouramis because those most likely will be attacked. Avoid anything that would nip the betta's fins.

depending on tank size, bettas are pretty welcoming of many tank mates, as long as they do not look like bettas (long, colorful fins or fish with bad temperments).

No other aggressive territorial fish, nothing that might make the betta think it's another male, nothing that will nip/shred the betta's fins. Snails and shrimp are usually okay if they're introduced full grown and the betta doesn't register them as a potential food source, but that's always iffy.

Had a really plain platy in my 5 hex with one of my bettas, he killed it.

The betta in my 10 gallon is with 3 kuhlis, a guppy and an otto. They've never had any problems. He actually lays on top of the kuhlis sometimes to sleep. The only reason the guppy is alive is because my betta's fins are extremely long so he can't swim fast enough to catch it.

Fish like kuhli loaches look absolutely nothing like a betta, so they usually work as long as you have a heated tank with adequate space.
Corycats work well also.
Guppies, platys, tetras - there's mixed results with these. Some people report their betta living peacefully with them, some people report their betta harrassing or killing them.

I've had glass cats, glass fish, corys, a pleco, golden barbs, danios, flame tetras, neon tetras, dojo loaches, fancy goldish, and an otto in with my betta and he never touched any of them. (Yes, he's been around). I think he's pretty peaceful as far as bettas go.

Cherry barbs, dwarf gouramis, feeder guppies
