Ok I have been struggling for along time now trying to keep the water in my 40gallon rectangle tank clear.

I was wondering what you guys do? Do you use any chemicals?

I do water changes every week and I clean the gravel every week I also clean the glass daily. I don’t know what else there is to do lol

any suggestions?

What kind of filter/pump do you have running?

what are your ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels?

how many and what kind of fish are in this 40 gallon tank?

How many times and how much do you feed your fish?

Sounds like you need to calm down....and leave the tank alone for a few weeks. Maybe you are OVER cleaning. Make sure you have a good filter. We experienced cloudy water after initial setup...but that went away. We now do thorough gravel vacs once a month, only replacing 1/3 of the water, wash the filter media in old tank water while doing the change, NEVER wash tank decs, use dechlorinator for the amount of water you replaced, add aquarium salt to 1 tbs for every five galons. Our fish are healthy and FULL of energy. (and we keep the temp. around 72-75. Our water is clear.

i dont believe in over cleaning a tank.

it sounds like your tank may be cycling.

DO NOT add a water clarifier. it kills the bacteria that are growing in the water and making it cloudy. these bacteria are benificial in the sense that they get rid of ammoin and nitrite.

or, you could be having an algea bloom in your tank. still then, do not add any water clarifiers or algacides (sp?).

Heh sorry I guess more information would have helped lol

Sorry ok here is what I got

I have a Penguin BIO-Wheel Power Filter model 200 you can see it here.

I don’t feed my fish that much. I do flake food once a day sometimes once every two days and then 2-4 shrimp pellets a week.

The inhabitants of my tank are 3 cory cats, 3 ottos, 1 danio, 1 blue Gourami.
I have live plants and CO2

I don’t know the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels sorry

And it is algae I think. It is not on the glass or plants its just the water that’s green.
