Safe to feed Canned Tuna?

I think they add salt....check the label for that and other additives........protein breaks down rapidly after death, and really breaks down after being cooked! Denatured proteins are not near as valuable as raw meats nutritionally speaking.

i guess i'll never understand people feeling that their large cichlids 'need' canned tuna, feeder fish or whatever. if you're looking to get the optimum nutrition for your fish, you can't do better than quality prepared cichlid foods from such as Hikari, OSI, New Life Spectrum, Omega One, San Francisco Krill and others.

you can culture microworms such as mealworms ... and occasional earthworms, bugs and such from your yard are fine but not 'necessary' to the health of your fish. canned tuna? why?

well, that's an entirely different sandwich ... in that case, i'd say do it. ;)

lol, i didnt say my fish needed it. my daughter loves tuna sandwich's so we always have alot on hand. the reason i asked it one of convienence, not the BS your accusing me of. i do not feed my fish anything "live".
they are fed hikari bio gold, krill, shrimp and veggies.

tuna is pretty salty, not to mention and preservatives in the can.

other than fresh vegatables for herbavorious fish, people food isnt good for fish. i never saw a reason to feed my fish food like tuna, hot dogs, other eats etc. because there are so many other options that are much better for the overall health of the fish.

Hehe..it's cool....my cat gets our extra tuna when we make sandwiches!

thanks for your info YoFishboy and jm1212.
i will avoid it. Just after weeks and weeks of making tuna sandwhichs for my daughters lunch the curiosity prompted me to ask.

If she is eating a lot of tuna, I urge you to check out this link about the mercury content in fish:
http://www.nrdc.org/health/effects/mercury/guide.asp

Basic gist is that 'canned chunk light' tuna has moderate mercury levels and should not be consumed more than 6 times per month. Canned 'albacore' tuna has high mercury levels and should be consumed no more than 3 times per month. Mercury poisoning is a very real threat to children who love tuna fish sandwiches. One of my cousins suffered this poisoning, and thankfully it can be reversed. It's not something a lot of people know about, and many scoff it off, but be careful!
