Nescessities to start up a 55 gallon

Had to google rubbermaid - thought it was a paddling pool!

I guess if the tupperware box is large enough, and covered to keep fish in/cats out (assuming you have cats) then it will work as a tempory solution. Keep an eye on the temp as these setups aren't as well insulated as tanks and hold a small volume of water, so are liable to fluctuations, especially if the ambient (room) temperature fluctuates that much - we're expecting 4" snow in London tomorrow, no doubt bringing the transport network to a halt! Hope it's not as cold wherever you are.

Canister filter, definitely. Cost more, but ease of maintenance and for me, much quieter.

woohoo im getting 100 bucks for my bday plus i have 50 bucks right now then ill probably get 50 more from my grandparents, then maybe some from my friends cause they are all 2 lazy 2 buy a present lol
so should $200 dollars buy everything? I cant seem to find goo dused ones

I've seen 55 gallons on ebay go for 50.00, also here in O'fallon Illinois just outside of St. Louis I've seen 125 gallon tank setup's go for 100.00's seems when people are tired of caring for fish they want to get rid of their stuff usually pretty cheap. Newspapers, fleamarkets, yardsales and such all have great deals at times but you have to look and be very lucky at times to get them. A year ago there was a Baptist Church around here that had a 100 gallon with 2 oscars and stand to give away, to say the least it went within a few moments.

I put 2 double light strips on my planted 55's in order to get the wattage for plant growth.I had 4 tanks about 5 years agobut had to give them up. I don't know anything about compact flouresense, but the rest of the advice is good.HTH
