Growing a BGK out in a 100g would work *temporarily* even though I have a funny feeling you're more interested in the cute factor of these large animals, rather than the long-term success factor.

Anyways, because of their weakly electric organ, it is suggested you provide them with a PVC pipe to hide in, as PVC will help block out electrical currents in the water coming from the heater, etc. They'll spend most of their time in there.

Also, they are extraordinarily sensitive to medications because they lack scales. Be wise with medicating/treating a tank with a BGK in it.

They will eat fish smaller than them and they require very clean, soft and stable water.

It may not be what I want to hear, but I am definetly listening and accepting it.

They are cute, and I do understand they get large, that is why I asked for information about it. It's not like I bought it because it was "cute" the day I saw it, I wanted to get info and everything else..and I still plan on getting one.
 
They love heavily planted tanks. I've found that they thrive in peat-filtered water. I would avoid keeping them with anything that will annoy them or other fish that are weakly electric as well, such as elephant noses and brown ghost knives.

Peaceful larger tank mates like Guianacara, Uaru, adult Angels, etc. would work well. Fancy plecos, too.
 
If you guys are going to blast someone for ignoring information, maybe you should try giving some that isn't false.

She's right, you do NOT need a 200 gallon tank for a black ghost.

There is a big difference between *false* and *optimal*.There is nothing false about a large or adult BGK needing a very large tank. And, for a 14-16'' fish, a 200g would be optimal.
It has already been said that 100g would be alright to grow out a BGK until time came to move on.

Plus, she's got a 300g, she'll be FINE :D

Sorry no info on the BGK, but just wanted to say that I like that site too, there is a converter at the bottom of the page for the metric-impaired. Actually, I use it to convert from imperial to metric.

My black ghost is in a 410 gallon aquarium. He hides near a particular piece of driftwood where he has shoved aside the former residents, in particular a couple of Synodontis nigriventris. He thoroughly enjoys frozen bloodworms and shrimp. I initially provided him (?) with a piece of PVC pipe which he rejected for his current location. His chosen location is much more exposed than the inside of that PVC pipe would have been. He seems to keep the competition at a distance with casual "nudges" with that electrical current of his. I have been missing a dojo for a couple of weeks but don't believe the black ghost was the culprit as I haven't noticed a severely swollen stomach. - the dojo was (is? - he may be hiding in the Rotala) almost 4 inches long. The pH is 7.1 and the GH is about 13. The temperature is kept at 78 degrees Fahrenheit. In the past I have trained black ghosts by simply holding a piece of frozen shrimp in my fingers but with a 30" depth this one is not much interested. Mine is approximately 7 inches in length and I have had him for more than 2 months.

Thank you for the information Beasts. I want you to know that 78 degree water you have your dojo in shortened his life dramatically, they need 72 and below water, and 74+ will shorten the fishes life. He probably died because of the temperature, maybe lower it 5-6 degrees? I know that would be really hard to do with such a big aquarium - but if your dojo loach is still alive he will be much more active and healthy if the temp is lowered :)
 
i have a bgk and he loves frozen brine shrimp and frozen blood worms. I have him in a community tank the temp is at 79 and i have a GH of 16 , hides under rock all day until about 7pm then comes out swimming like a mad man. He likes to hang out with the pleco, they go on the lookout for food together, kinda like a tag team effort lol.
 
Thank you so much everyone!!! I really enjoyed reading about all the experiences and stuff.

The BGKs at the pet store and in 10 gallons, I know they are only meant to be in there temporily but how big would they grow in a 10 gallon if they were at the pet store forever and how long would they live? I would never even think about keeping one in a 10 gallon, after all I already have bigger tanks to keep him in lol :D but anyway...how big would they grow in one and how long would they live?
