I modified my cold water 30G tank to be a heated 30G tank and changed the composition of the fish. I had basically some goldfish, and koi and now I added in some angelfish, Platies, Whiteclouds and some Clown Loach.

Problem is I have one Koi that keeps chasing the Clown Loach (the other Koi doesn't seem to mind them). I know I could remove that Koi but I like him for his gravel cleaning capabilities.

Is this normal that some Koi don't get along with Clown Loach?

Thanks!

koi are 'cold water' fish ... clown loaches should be maintained as 'tropical fish'. also, clowns should be kept in groups. your tank is too small for either species.

Also goldfish requure a specific diet that is much different than regular tropicals. Higher in carbs and lower in protein. Thus, even disregarding temp requirements and size issues there is a large problem with feeding fish in such a tank.

Oh and white cloud minnows are coldwater fish.

Is this the same tank you set up one week ago? How are your water parameters looking?

So you have koi, goldfish, angels, platies, minnows and clown loaches all in a 30g?

This is going to create a lot more problems than koi chasing a clown loach.

I am affraid that you won't get much in the way of help for that tank if you wish to try and keep all those fish in there at the same time. It just won't work.

The 2 Koi's are 3" and the 5 clowns are each 2". I intend to donate the Kois to a friend's pond when they hit 6".

My mistake. They are not white clouds - they are swordtails (5). I guess my LFS is to blame. :-(

Yeah. But they are all small - 1-2".

The problem is that when one gets to the LFS not all fish communities as related here are available and one has to depend on the local salesman.

Imagine the newbie dilemma. One can sit and read books and online articles for days and dozens of hours and then go and buy a fishtank and fish. And maybe get it right.

In my case I fell into it and have to learn as I go along.
