Initial Impressions AGA MegaFlow Sump Filter

My new All-Glass Aquarium MegaFlow Sump Filter Model 3 showed up today.

I thought I would post my initial impressions and I'll update if I ever get it setup.

So thoughts:

Well packaged arrived in perfect condition
Well-made - All Acrylic, seam clean and smooth
Sticker showing maximum and minimum water levels

The only odd thing I noticed is there is no way to access the bubble chamber to clean it. Since the water goes there before it is filtered, I would expect debris in that chamber.

All the other areas of the filter are accessible.

Another couple note:

It comes with setup intractions showing how to connect it to the tank, but does not show the pump or return setup. Not a big as I think most of us are smart enouogh to manage, but a little strange that they left it out.

The manual also does not mention anything about how to maintain it. Again most of us who would consider a wet/dry setup can cope, but you would think they would mention something.

they most likely left out the return because of the varing types of return rates people want. yes a list would make some sense but i guess they thought it was better left out. you can run an internal pumpthat sits inside the wet/dry or drill a hole and run an external.. its all up to you. and maitnence on a wet dry is pretty straigh forward. change the prefilter, thats it everything else you really for get. Gl on setting it up

I don;t anticipate any problem. I already have the pump adn all, just thought it strange they did not mention anything. The brochure for the filter lists recommended pumps, but the manual does not. Just strange.

Okay I have sometime to look at it in detail. Assuming the bubble chamber does not collect debris.

I don't think I could make this for what I paid. The acrylic, glue, bioballs, filter media fittings, would proably coist around $100.

The time it would take to make: For someone who is used to working with acrylic and has all the tools: 3hrs

For a general handyman just working through it: A day.

The price I paid was $199, plus shipping.

Assuming it works as advertised, I would strongly recommend it.

Give me a month or so to get my tank setup and stocked and I will let you know.
