PetSmart Backroom

As with a lot of these type of videos, there are not enough facts and seem to be completely biased.

It is sad, and I don't think anyone here would have doubts of some of it's truth. But leave it to PETA to mess a good thing up. Instead of leaving it at horiffic conditions, and maybe asking for a boycott until it's fixed, they ask for a boycot until they stop selling animals entirely. It's far more effective to shame a company into fixing its ways, not eliminating an entire type of product. They should tone down the "extremist" rants and demands. It would be far better recieved that way.

Its PETA. go figure. As soon as i sw it was made by PETA. The credibility went WAY down in my book.

Any video made by PETA like that, should be taken as seriuosly as the blair witch project.

If the conditions were as bad as they want people to believe why didn't they involve the SPCA? I wouldn't put it past PETA to plant dead animals in a store and then cry about the horible mistreatment.

obviously the woman who "made" the video was a pretty crappy Pet Care Specialist. Sick pets aren't "hidden" in the back, they are kept in the back so that 1. they can be treated and 2. they aren't sold to unsuspecting customers. I understand that they don't want animals kept as pets at all, and that is a valid point for their organization. However, blaming Petsmart is not the answer. These hamsters with wet tail came in that way - that's the breeder's fault. Maybe they should be working for a cure to let hamsters live happy dry tail lives instead of sabotaging Petsmart behind the scenes. Video of filthy yellow water bowls? I think changing the water bowls was under her job description. Mice eating their dead friend? They're rodents - they eat everything, including their own babies if they feel like it. Bettas? She had a whole box in front of her, i didn't see her grab a dead one and show it to the camera.

I'm not saying that I belive any of this, but, if any of this is even briefly true, its pretty sickning. I know that alot of the things on that site are not true, but I really hope that no stores are like that.

It's like the propaganda photos that PETA, et al sends out in petitions to stop animal mistreatment in drug tests. You know, the one with the pretty tabby cat with one eye dilated and one eye contricted? Our biology teacher showed us that because of certain muscles in the eye, that same effect can be accomplished by shining a very bright light, probably a laser, into the cat's eye, making it seem constricted and reddish tinted. Put the cat into a dark room, and voila! the other eye dilates...and before I get flamed, no we didn't use a real cat. It was a drawing of a feline eye.

Sad thing is many people in this world 100% believe everything they read or see...and never stand up and question where the information comes from. I just think PETA goes about handling their protests in a very misleading way...what happened to facts? And people just eat it up like free candy. They just sign a check for some $$ and PETA becomes that much richer. I don't know about you, but the claims of some single woman, who looks very disgrundled and is looking for any excuse to have her 15 minutes of "fame", isn't the person I'd be inclined to believe... :mad2:

I do agree they've helped millions of animals get better treatment using scare tactics...but do the PETA-esque activists really think they are doing the animals a favor when they release 10 tropical monkeys/birds/rodents lose in a lab, in Iowa, in December in the name of animal freedom (made up scenario details, but you get my point)? Those animals will just die a quicker death of starvation or end up hurting themselves. They'd probably be surprised at the care animals get at good petshops, breeders, zoos, and circuses. Of course there is always the flip side, bad shops, back-yard breeders looking to make a quick buck on their canine b*tch, and roadside animal attractions. But if you look at modern facilities, with a dedicated staff, living there doesn't seem half bad...

And I can't believe that PETA, et al members don't have/refuse animals as pets. That can be the goal of their little club, but I can bet it's no where near the truth. You can't tell me that everyone of them would rather see Fluffy their Pomeranian lose in the street running with a pack of dogs instead of wearing cute little clothes at the anti-Humane Society rally? Puuuuhhhllleeezzzz. How many of them have a fishtank for Jr.? Or just got a kitten for their daughter's birthday? It's called "Domesticated" for a reason. Some animals adapt well to human society. We provide the best environment possible. Why doesn't PETA, et al turn their eye towards a bigger goal...like providing free or low-cost spay/neuter clinics, raising money for their local no-kill shelters, or raising money for service animals (such as seeing-eye, hearing-ear, and animals used as therapy aids) Put all that clout and $$$ into some sort of good for a change instead of manipulating the public...

I could go on like this for hours...just really gets under my skin. :mad2:
