I am setting up a 150g. I am familliar with canisters, but my tank is a used (like 1 week) acrylic that is set up w/ a built in overflow system. I am thinking 2 mag. 350's, because I am familliar with canisters/mag's. Would I be better off setting up a sump? I am mechanichly inclined. I am a framing/finish carpenter and high novice plumber.
The 2 mag's. will run me $180.00. Can I add the sump system later or should I trial&error before I setup? I am in a hurry as I have 2-12"oscars, a 10"jag, a 15year-old , 15"pleco, and 2 4" tinfoils?

i have gone planted tanks with my bigger tanks so i never used a sump before.

i think they end up being cheaper easier to clean and can get you the turn over rate that is hard to do in canister filters.
canisterd or sumps?

Unless you plan on a planted tank, go with a wet/dry sump setup. Maximum bio-filtration.

First of all, thank you for the advice. My first magnum arrived today, I am going to start with the magnums,, and build a wet/dry over the next couple months, I know how to operate the mags, and I am the type of person that will need to engineer everything like 3 times . I don't have the patience to wait to start my tank, and I'm sure my 2-12" oscars, 10" jag, 14" pleco, and 2 4" tinfoils can't wait either.(currentley in a grown out to the max 55g) I have the filter set up on the 55 to establish it. I'm sure it will be harder to install the w/d on a set up tank but I am working on my masterpiece and don't want anything to go wrong, and on top of that, that fishload and tank size , 2 mags will go nice with a w/d. Is this realistic/sound , thinking or am I just retarded?

i dont think a second mag will be really that necessary. You could easily get by with a good wet/dry.

then when i get my sump going I can trash my tetratech 500 and move 1 mag back to the 55 that my buttekoferi will be inheriting
