More plants!!!

Your not supposed to keep the rubber band on. You have to separate it so the stems are not crushed and so the lower leaves can get more light.
A helpful tip:
I propagate my rotala( a similar stem plant) by cutting the stem a couple inches up from the gravel and then stripping the lower leaves on the stem and replanting that. A few new shoots come from the part that I left in the gravel. Then when the replanted shoot gets too tall I do the same thing. This is a fast and easy way to get a nice forest/bush effect going on. This way it fills out and looks thick.

This site has user experiences below the plant info. If you look at the last response you will see what I am talking about with the rubber band and planting too close. This person thinks that there is something wrong with the plant when it is actually the way he planted it that made it die off.

You'll find sometimes too, that when you cut the top off at a node, the plant may grow 2 tops instead of just one.

anacharis( elodea/egeria densa aka brazillian water weed)
can also grow floating(it does not need to be planted) if you see it melt keep heart..it may still grow..once it gets established..it is literally a weed..it does very well with CO2 and ample light.
mine melted when I placed it in the aquarium..I had some green stems.I let them float and prest..new plants grew from the stems.

I thought all my anacharis was dead. I found a little chunk of apical meristem in the bottom of my 10. I put it in the 55 with better light, CO2, and ferts. Three weeks later BAM! I've got about 10ft. of it.

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Bacopa monierra (moneywart) I have a ton of this stuff and I love it. Most of it is growing about 6-8" out of the top of my 45g tank! The best part about this stuff is once or twice a year when it has grown out of the water grows little pinkish purple flowers.
Really easy to grow. Enjoy.

I'll have to try this. Usually when it gets close to the top I trim it off and replant it. Have you had any trouble with it dying after it flowers?

kool.
