My community tank is almost stocked the way I want now. However the 3 clowns I mistakingly bought early on are the only fish which will outgrow the 39 gal. So they will be going, but I need to replace them with other bottom feeders that'll search out any uneaten food etc with similar efficiency.

Algae munching is taken care of by otos and bristlenose, so any ideas what other bottom feeders would suit, and not grow too big?

Thanks,
Dave

A stock list would help more but since you say community, I assume it's safe to guess it's all pretty peaceful, do you like Cories at all? There are MANY different species/colors/patterns and they are fun to watch school. A school of 5 would certainly help keep the bottom clean.

Some species of Syno's could work, depending on the size of your other fish, long as they are big enough they won't get eaten. My Syno's (Euruptus), don't bother anyone at all, and NOTHING gets left uneaten at the bottom, and personally I think they are amazing to see when they come out fins spread and glide across the bottom.

Well, I was thinking of bronze or peppered cory's as they stock those at the lfs. They only grow to about 8cm, correct?

I love my cories. Most will stay small and depending on which kind you have can be very active.

Well, how many and what kind of fish do you already have there?

Ok, have been thinking the last couple of days and I'm nowhere near having the tank how I want.

2 Dwarf Gouramis
2 Glass cats
1 Oto
1 Bristlenose
7 Neons
and the 3 x 3inch clowns

So there's not a great deal in the tank because the clowns have been holding me back.

I had two otos but one died the first night. I would like to get one or two more but they were expensive here. One Glass Cat came accidentally with the loaches. I thought about returning it but decided to get another and see how they went (could return them if it didn't work out). They're doing great, even swimming with the other fish at night, though they'd feel more secure with a few more of their own, I guess.

The tank is very peaceful. Plenty of plants for everyone to hide amongst and decent HOB filtration. Since converting to a planted tank a few months ago, and slowly stocking, there's never been an ammonia or nitrite spike. Nitrates are staying stable at around 10ppm.

So please tell me what I could do, or what I should change.

Thanks,
Dave
