discus questions

I added some peat moss to one of my filters and the discus (browns) seem to be a little more relaxed and lively. Of course, my water is stained, but that doesn't really bother me too much.

I actually like the look of stained water.
my water is neutral in pH..I don't add anything to it.

what do you mean by stained water?? the water is more murky or appears to be a different coloration or shade?

peat, driftwood, leaves etc..turn the water tea colored/stained.
usually from tannins .it is generally harmless to fish and even favored by some species.many of the SA cichlids like it.

ok well how does this stocking list look for my tank?

6-8 discus (more, less, good??)
15 serpae tetras
25 neons/cardinals/rummynose (which one?)
10 false juli corys
1 BGK

Remind people of how large your tank is.

I'm not overwhelmed by keeping the knife with the discus, personally.

is this for the 115?

I have the same concern as sun devil..not sure how the BKG will respond to the discus...

Hmm, well I had a BKG with my 4.5 discus and they got along fine. If anything it's the BKG that is more likely to eat some of the tank mates. I had the BKG, a serpae, an iridescent shark and the discus for some time. I made the mistake of adding an extra betta I inherited from a friend...bad idea...the BKG pecked it to death. So, I did some swaps and for the last several months I have kept my discus with some zebra danios, cardinal tetras, rummynose tetras, and a small algae eater...and quite a few small snails. The tank is running great and everyone gets along fine...the tetras could easily fit in the discus mouth but there is not chance as they are pretty fast and I keep him well fed.

sorry guys, the tank is 115 gallons yes, and i to am concerend about the BGK, but he does need a larger tank im afraid.....he is in a tank with serpaes and a few other fish right now and doing fine, im not to concerned about him to be honest when it comes to the tetras, he is very shy.... im sure he could become more agressive in the up and coming years, but the tank is large, so i figure theres plenty of hiding and room to get away as well. Im a bit worried about how he'll adjust to the temperatue as well.... and obviously how he will react towards the discus. If it doesnt work out i could probably leave him in my 55g for a while longer, he is only about 7" atm. But what do you guys think? Also, which one of the types of tetras do you think will go well??

it's been done before..
just keep an eye on things and make sure you have plenty of cover.
th BGK high range is suppose to be 82(the low end of discus tanks)
heck I keep my discus with a lone wild scalare and other than a bit of pusing around(the discus push the angel) they get along fine.

I see more aggression amongst the discus ..they pretty much leave their tank mates alone.
