I was thumbing through a book at a bookstore while my fiance shopped. The book was on micro/pico reefs. I didn't buy it, but there was a tiny species of dartfish, max size about 1.5 inches, light purple/pink, reccomended for sub 5G reefs. I should have written down the species name, but we didn't go straight home as planned, and I've forgotten it. Any ideas? I'll probably go find that book again, but maybe someone knows.

i wouldnt suggest any type of fish for a pico.
i cant think of a dartfish off the top of my head... but i can think of trimma gobies that get about that size? i still wouldnt suggest it

The dartfish you are referring to are Firefish. You need at least a 20 gallon tank.
firefish are red and get larger than 1.5 inches....the purple fire fish also gets more than 1.5 inches...there is a smaller species out there just cant nab it. im sure he didn't mean them...either that of the book was wrong.

never seen any firefish/dartfish be that small, smallest species i have seen grow to 3 inches..but, saying that, there are bound to be sub-species of fish that are hardly ever documented in the public domain...

no, the purchase size is 3/4" to 1 inch, the growth size is 1 1/4" as it says in the info box at the top and also in the write up of the fish..

Quote...

"They are smaller gobies only reaching a total length of just over 1 inch. "
