my dwarf puffers are wimps

i only feed them live blackworms. they won't eat anything else. i know this can be a risk sometimes, but its that or nothing.

I had the exact same set-up as you do...three dwarf puffers and two ottos, well almost, I also had a lone platy in there as well. My puffers' behavior was almost identical to what you describe. I also fed them live worms, and they had a decent supply of snails from the plants.

I always thought that they were afraid of me. When I cleaned the 10g tank, I would sometimes take out the java moss, add new plants etc...(it is/was heavily planted). It always seemed to scare them. So, maybe they have become frightened of your rearranging??? Who knows, sorry not to be of much help, except to say I experienced similar.

I have since moved them to my community 46g and they seem to be doing great! And I have yet to experience them nipping at my other fish. It too is heavily planted with plenty of snails to crunch.

tried to feed them last night, they wouldn't eat again. however, 1 out of the 3had a huge belly. he must have ate when i didn't see.

I'm going to put the decor back the way it was 6 months ago and leave it that way.......................

i have put my decor back to an old way.

they still aren't eating. I even bought live brine shrimp. Don't know if they've eaten the shrimp. It's a bummer.

They still have bellies but just don't want to eat... just hide. I don't know how they aren't starving!

I have mine trained with a syringe they come up to it and eat from it when I put it in the tank.
I bought 4 two weeks ago one died over night and I have another that has been "hanging on" and is doing what yours is, hiding and not eating yet has a round belly and seems to be fine in the evening.
The other two are healthy and come to the syringe for their meals the other one I drop blood worms around him and hope that he will pick up some.
I have treated him for IP and used some melafix but I'm not sure what is wrong.
The stores remaining one looks similar to my sickly one, and the store lost 3 from the shipment, i'm still holding out that my sickly one will pick up because it isn't getting any worse.

I hope yours are ok... (yes my tank was cycled and perameters are 0,0, under 20 Ate.)

Mine don't appear to actually be sick... at least that I can tell. I just think they are scared of me. they used to rush out to eat food. now they just watch blackworms go right by their faces.

update on the DPs

here's an update on my DPs.

They still hardly eat. Obviously they eat enough to stay alive, but it doesn't seem to be much. I have to dump some live worms in and run away from the tank for them to eat. if they see me standing there watching, they refuse to eat. its so annoying.

they never swim around. they just hide in the caves or directly underneath a plant.

they are getting thinner. I'm starting to worry that perhaps they picked up a parasite or something. Does anyone know what to recommend for this? Do you think this is the case??!

do you feed snails or shrimp?
im not absoluty positive but i know on f8s they need to eat things like that so that there "beek" dosnt get to big

I have fed them live brine shrimp as well. they eat that a little bit. not alot though.

i have never found snails small enough for them.

some people say dwarf puffers need snails so their teeth doesn't overgrow, others say Dwarf puffers teeth won't do that.

Sounds like internal parasites. They can go months without symptoms, then they quit eating. Very difficult to get rid of.

DP's don't need crunchy stuff. They do like to suck them out of their shells, though, I would try them if you haven't already.
