clare
good to hear....echinoderms usually start dieing after about 6-12 months of bad nutrition. hope u can fix him good luck!

Clare I agree with Niko about the Salifert ones (I've recently changed to them myself). The main tests you need to worry about for now is

PH
NitrAtes
NitrItes
Ammonia

Those 4 test kits would cost you £26 at the website I gave you last night plus p&p

Hope this helps

no silly, that was me that said about the saifert test kits. :)

thats what i herd, they were the best.

i might have to wait 2-3 weeks befor i can afford them, as iv just spent out on the lights.

thanks again for the link :)

Here are some water parameters you should strive for...

* SALINITY:1.024-1.026s.g. Tested with hydrometer
Salinity can be as low as 1.021s.g. for fish only tanks

* PH 8.2-8.4 tested with high range test kit

* TEMPERATURE 76F-83F The key here is to stabilize the temp at a constant number like 79F.

* AMMONIA 0ppm Tested with a saltwater hobbyist test kit

* NITRITE 0ppm Tested with a saltwater hobbyist test kit

* NITRATE 0-10ppm Tested with a saltwater hobbyist test kit

* PHOSPHATES> 0-.03ppm Tested with a saltwater hobbyist test kit. WARNING! ALGAE BLOOMS CAN OCCUR IF PHOSPHATE LEVELS EXCEED 0.02PPM This can be controlled by using a phosphate resin.

* CALCIUM 380PPM-450PPM Tested with a saltwater hobbyist test kit
WARNING: LOW CALCIUM LEVELS WILL LEAD TO STUNTED GROWTH AND SEVERE HEALTH PROBLEMS IN CORALS AND CLAMS

* ALKALINITY 2.5-4.5meg/l Tested with a saltwater hobbyist test kit. ALKALINITY is a measurement of the systems ability to buffer itself. PH, ALK, CALCIUM are all linked and balanced together. You should strive to keep all levels stable and in balance.

* MAGNESIUM 1250-1350ppm Magnesium should be tested at least once a week and adjusted properly

* STRONTIUM, IODIDE, AND IRON should be dosed weekly per manufacturers directions OVERDOSING IS COUNTERPRODUCTIVE!!! DO NOT OVERDOSE!!!

This is a lot of test. Your LFS should be able to test these for you. SUPPORT YOUR LFS!!!

hi germanman.

iv just put some green algie under him, is this the right stuff?

its all i have unitll i go to the shop tomorrow.

anythink else you think i should buy, whilst im there?
heres some marine foods i already have.

green algie,
frozen brine shrimp,
some other kind of shrimp
frozen mixed food
frozen muscles
bottle of zoo plez
bottle of iodine

clare

p.s hope you guy are not fed up with all the questions, i just rather
do it right.

what test kit does your lfs use? You could possibly ask them to test if they are using a liquid test kit. Get some frozen mysis shrimp if you dont have some already, they're more nutritios than brine shrimp. If you have filter feeders in your tank get some liquid invertebrate food

hi, i have the invertabrate liquid food, its called zooplex, and i just brought a bottle of iodine.

is mysis the white shrimps and slightly bigger than the brine shrimp? if so i have some.
as the shrimps are so small, wouldnt it be a bit hard to feed them to the starfish?
i will try putting some under him, thats the only way i can think of, unless you can give me a better way?

thanks clare

dont forget aquaC (ive been saying that brand name a lot)
The mysis shrimp is more for the fish lol

nope never fet up! ask away!
well if those are frozen foods they are high in phosphates and even if the test kit shows nothing it can be wrong. i would suggest more flow and a skimmer is always needed with corals. get a good one though Berlin, CPR Aquatics, or Corallife.

a new skimmer is on the list, but its in for a long wait. :)

thanks clare

well without a skimmer make sure you compensate by doing extra water changes.
