What other methods would help cut down on nitrates? I was thinking that the way clear vinyl tubing builds up algae on the inside. If you had say 2ooo ft or so of this vinyl tubing covered with algae coiled up with a pump that constantly pumps aquarium water through it would remove enough nitrates to be a worthwhile project to attempt. Any ideas good or bad will be accepted.
I would appreciate any thoughts on this and also if it would be a sufficient means of nitrate removal? also if anyone has run upon any articles on this subject please let me know. thank you people for so much polite and useful info put forth on all my posts. i really appreciate it.

125 gallon aquarium. Would a sump with a wet dry filter be better than a HOB or a canister? for an african cichlid tank filled with peacocks. and do you know any sights where i can get any info on how the sump and wet dry filters work? I have now idea how they work and would appreciate if someone can help me with diagrams and relate info? thanks, would it also be cheaper and less maintnece ?

Plants or water changes.

I dont know how this may work for you, but a deep (12"+) gravel bed in my sump has helped lower nitrates.

other than the ones evreyone else mentioned, a coil denitrator is a viable project.

I have recently purchased 7500 feet of airline tubing and Im also thinking about setting up a very large coil denitrator.

I'll probably start building this today, now that you mention it. :)
