This is getting old. I put the plants in and the fish eat 'em. Are there some plants that fish are more likely to leave alone? I've noticed they don't seem to bother my banana plant.

Actually, I've got some in there. They don't eat it exactly, they just tear it up. I'm pretty sure it's the goldies that are doing it. Nasty little things that my girls "surprised" :bday: me with. What'cha gonna do.
Yeah, 2 goldfish. I know they're coldwater but like I said, they were a surprise by my kids. I sorta had to put them in the tank. Guess the answer is a 10g, goldfish only tank. I've got an extra hood and stuff so eight bucks for a tank and no more worries. (yeah right) Hey, can we keep this question going? Are there any plants less likely to be eaten?
the answer is most definitely NOT a 10g goldfish only tank. the answer would be either to get rid of them (which obviously you cannot do)
or a NO LESS THAN 40 gallon goldfish only coldwater tank.
goldfish are not small creatures, they grow very fast, and will create more of a bioload than you can imagine.

In light of the fact that you don't know that gold fish aren't suitable for a 10 gallon tank, I'm going to go ahead and ask: When are you planning to upgrade the tinfoil barbs to a larger tank? http://www.aquahobby.com/gallery/e_tinfoil.php

Actually, I do know I can't put them in a 10g. I've had them in my 45g for years and they're about 5" now. They'd never fit in a 10. I dunno, I guess I'm just stressing. As suggested above, I've got a small pond in the back yard so maybe that's an option. Not sure what I'll do when winter gets here though. Got Racoons around too and they might eat 'em. I don't know, can't have that I guess. I mean, I may not think they're the greatest fish in the world but I wouldn't want anything bad to happen to 'em. Aaaaa, I'll probably just leave them in the 45g with plastic plants. Anyway, as far as the tin foils go I'm getting ready to put a 55g in. It's only 48" long but I figure it should help for a while. The foils were another unexpected addition to the family. I just came home one day and my wife had put them in the tank. She said, "Surprise!" I was surprised all right. Now don't get me wrong, they are some of the most awesome fish I have even seen. I did however ask her (after couple of days had gone buy and I thought it was safe of course) I asked her if she understood how big they were going to get. But she said she'd asked them at our LFS and they said they would be fine in our 45g. :rant2: Don't you just love that. On the other hand, it did give me a really good excuse to get another big tank. And now that I think about it, they'll need an even bigger one in a few years. (or however long it's gonna take. Next month maybe???
