What is this, and is it bad? He came out of the uncured LR I put in my tank to cycle it.

Picture isn't great. He is about an 3/4 to 1 inch long, slug body with little round mouth. His antennae curl up when he retracts them. The top of his body is light brownish with short white "hairs" protruding from it.

Thanks.

Its a nudibranch...Depending on the sort, some people leave them in there. If your unsure about the type, as it cannot be made out from that picture, your best off removing them.

However, here is a good site for getting an ID on your slug...

is this the same

i just joined this forum to find out the same thing i have seen two of these things in my tank and today i noticed it releasing a white creamy looking substance into the tank it was not just one defensive puff but a series of about ten for about a second or two each time i took a picture i hope someone recognises it and can tell whether its a danger to the tank or not

I didn't find anything on the nudibranc site that looked close. It is sleeping with the fishes now :( I don't like to kill anything.

I didn't see anything shell-like on it. It honestly looked like a big slug.

Divecarl's guy is much more colorful and his antennae seem much shorter and stouter. My guy had these big long whispy antennae that curled up when he was startled. He was amazingly fast.

realy sounds like one to me..nudibranchs dont have antenna...they have rhinophores in their place and they cant fold up....they only have oral tentacles that dont get long and are on the underside....im still betting its a stometella...but u never know....their shell is small and same color as the flesh and is sometimes covers with flesh when attacked for protection...thats why they look like slugs sometimes.

Def looks like a stomatella...I have tons of them too and I saw the same white squirts coming out of them...then I saw teeny balls (looked to be eggs)...guess it was mating season....lol
