a.k.a. Blue-Jacks, Electric Blue Jack Dempsey
Size: up to 8 to 10" pH: 6 - 8 (ideal 6.9) dH: 10o Temp:72-85oF
Distribution- Jack Dempsey are native to the Atlantic slope of Central America, from Rio Chachalacas and Rio Paso San Juan, Cuidad Veracruz, Mexico, to Rio Ulua, Honduras
Diet: Not a picky eater, this species has been described both as herbivorous, feeding mainly on filamentous algae, and as omnivorous, feeding on insect larvae and adults, crayfish, molluscs, and even other smaller fish. They will eat most any foods offered to them, Cichlid pellets, earthworms, beefheart, feeder fish, worms, etc. The Powder Blue is much more peaceful than the common Jack Dempsey and will not grow as large either. Will do great in a community aquarium with other smaller cichlids especially Apistogrammas.
Chemicals: Black Water Expert found at Aquarium Chemicals
Food: New Life Spectrum "Cichlid Formula or Large Fish Formula" found at Fish Foods

AZ gardens? I really like buying from them they are great, nice fish great plants and large portions. Shipping is a little pricey.

They're not new. Been around for many years, but only recently arrived in the UK.

I have a pair and I love 'em! As they get older they get more and more impressive.

They're great if you can get hardy specimens. When buying them: the bigger the fish, the better the chances of survival.

Think carefully before buying this fish. They can be quite difficult to maintain.

Lots of info on my site: www.bluejax.co.uk

No, we have a african tank. I was just wondering, because they are beautiful fish. Maybe someday, when I can get (maybe) my brother-in-law's barren 125 tank. It would be so cool to have some South American cichlids.

I saw several juvies at an lfs last year. They were much better looking than that pic, but they wouldn't have mixed well with my Africans. The price was really high too, but that shop is always a bit overpriced on all their stock.
