Help me out here. I've got these two goldfish my kids gave me. (un-anounced, they just showed in the tank one day) Happy campers, 4 years old and 5" long. Now don't shoot me, they'er in my 45g tropical tank with the rest of the guys. I know, I know, they're cold water fish. (hey, it wasn't my idea) I keep the temp down to 73-74 degrees for them. Like I said, they're happy campers. Anyway, I'm working really hard on coming up with another big tank so I can have a tropical and a cold water tank. Space is the problem. (and re-inforcing the floor) Now if the piano wasn't there... Yeah right. Like that's gonna happen. Anybody got any suggestions on what to do here. I could give them away I suppose.. but what about my kid's feelings. (and what about me sleeping on the couch) There's always the finall option but I absolutely refuse that. It ain't there fault. Should I just go with the ugly stand and live with it for now. Build a nice one when I can. Geez, a 45g tank for two gold fish. What a world, what a world.
 
how about a double stand? like one of those that holds two tanks, one above the other? would that solve the problem?

No, actually, I would recommend finding a tank for the goldfish - You could try the classifieds, craigslist, ebay.... used tanks are easy to find for cheap these days online. Grab a used tank. What kind of goldfish are we talking here- fancies or common feeders? For fancies, you could get away with a 30 for the two, for commons, I'd go with at least a 45, if not larger. Get as large as you possibly can.

I have a 55 gal. tank outdoors with 4 goldfish in it. 3 comets. 1 malasa (looks like a comet but max. growth is approx. 6 inches). Temps here range from mid 30's to 90 degrees. So far they are all fine. Temps vary in the wild and the tank water changes slowly with the environment. Complete 'climate control' seems to me a bit much anyway. These fish are hardy! Gold fish seem to adapt well. The tank is in a covered patio area, no sun. I love it!
 
Love all the suggestions. My favorite is to gut the piano. That would be soooo cool. Make a tank that sits in front above the keys. Probably around a 50 or 60 long. Perfect. Then I'd just have to teach them how to play it. :clap: Unfortunately... I gotta live in the house so my second favorite idea is a pond. Actually, I already have one but didn't think it possible to put them in it. It's begenning to sound like it might be. Temps don't get must past 15 degrees here in the winter so with a heater it should be fine. I'll have to come up with some way to shade it in the summer but no biggie there. I'll think of something. Ummm, some kind of Arbor is the first thing that comes to mind. Maybe a Japanese fan sort of thing. With Ivy or something growing all over. Hmmm...

Qustions: My pond is only a 90g. It's got a waterfall so no problem but what about filtering? What's the best way to do that? What about water temp being too hot in the summer? Just shading in gonna be OK? etc. etc. etc.

Anybody doing this kind of thing out there? :hi:
