Possible sick Tiger Barbs

the paradise are looking fine i guess its time for a little fasting... the blanched peeled peas how do you prepare that?? and how much should they be fed when its time

You can use fresh or frozen peas - it doesn't matter which. Take enough peas so you'll have about one pea for every five fish, put them in a tea cup or coffee mug, cover them with a napkin or paper plate, and microwave them just until they start to turn a little wrinkly. Let them cool down, then peel the wrinkly skin off and feed them to the fish. I usually also cut them in halves or quarters.

let me get this straight.
you picked up a 29 with 2 paradise fish in it.
the tank was a complete set up with filter?
this was a penguin bio-wheel filter?

added tiger barbs(6) ho long ago?

you left the old filter the prefilter cartridge?
for a week then change the cartridge?

couple things come to mind...

usually the bio filter is established with the existing fish..so it will support the existing fish. adding 6 barbs may have casued a mini cycle..but you would see a small increase in ammonia then itrites but usually goes away after a few days.

what is the tank temp? how did you acclimate the barbs? do you notice anything with the barbs> clamped fins? rapid breathing etc?

yeah complete with everything.. penguin bio-wheel 150.. with filter and everything we transfered the water over here in a couple 18 gallon containers. the 2 fish were in the tank by themself for about a year i believe.. i did not think about the mini cycle but sounds like that definetly could have happend.. ive been testing the water every other day and havent seen any change in ammonia though..

the barbs were added last week, they were acclimated in the bag for about an hour adding about half cup of tank water every 10 minutes.

the water temp is 74-76 degrees

and no nothing appears abnormal about the barbs

the water temp is 74-76 degrees
That may be your problem. That's pretty cold for tropical fish. Does the tank have a heater? You should really get your temp up to about 78 or 79. It helps their digestion. Constipation and bloat are often caused by indigestion in low temperatures.

water is at 79 now we will see how that does they look more relaxed now.. they have looked more relaxed all day which is great
