Just wondering if this should be run 24-7 or just a couple hours a week?

I do not have an Algae problem. The UV unit is just to help keep the water as healthy as possible.

Thanks

its a debatable topic, IMO i would have it on only every once and a while since i think its beneficial to have a tiny bit of bad stuff in the tank to help the fish grow an immunity.

The main thing to remember is that a UV will not only kill free swimming paracites and bad bacteria, but, it will also kill of good bacteria in the water column too....Hence the reason people do not usually run them 24/7..

Just my opinion that they should only ever be used when there is an issue like ich or an algae bloom....

Thanks so much for the information.

I bought it to help clear up Ich - treating for 1 week and no signs on fish. I will continue to treat for another week with the UV running - just to be sure.

After the treatment is done, I think I may just run it for a few hours on the days I do a WC. That way it should filter out anything that is introduced to the tank.

Thanks to all.

Thats the same reasone i originally bought my UV unit. Right now i have it set p with a small pump so i can in stall it temprarill on any tank with a problem or to the QT tank when i have a new fish. Other than that it is not used.

My only caution is that some fish medication should not be used with a UV unit because the UV light can cause the medication react into a toxic for.

Good luck!!!
