Whats a good type of macro algae that can go in a display tank with mushroom corals, brain corals, frogspawn, zoa polyps and clams? It will be under 150 watt MH light and it is a 20 gallon tall aquarium. I want a slow growing one that wont take over my corals lights.

Shaving hair brush would work.

I tend to order some macroalgae from here:

Although I think most of it will go in my refugium because I'm afraid of it'll grow rapidly and take over my tank.

im looking into HOB refugiums now, but thanks for the link :)

well im planning macro in the main tank (if i dont have a fuge) as more of a decorative purpose, having it locked away in the corner in a pantyhose isnt very nice looking :)

I would be careful with doing that. It will take over real quick. I had a small peice of rock in my fuge and the caulepra was clinging all over it.

I bought some halimedia (sp?) that I plan on using in the display. It kind of looks like a christmas cactus to me.

I am contemplating doing this as well, for decorative purposes. I, like you, would like a little more info on whether the macro algae is easy to keep from spreading if you do weekly/monthly trimming? My tank is very small, it is a ten gallon nano, so I would probably have to trim often. But a little green in the tank would be nice : ) Thank you all for any help, this is a very good topic.

I had some shaving brush plants in my tank and wasn't that crazy about them so I took them out.

I had issues with my crabs climbing over them and pushing them over after a while. In fact, my sally lightfoot picked on up and took it around the tank. Also, it was when I was having a problem with red algae and the algae was all over the shaving brush. I took the shaving brushes and I think my tank looks better.

That's a very good point, I guess I never thought about how the inverts would mess with it. But I only have one crab and he usually doesn't move very far from his home.
