what type of clownfish is Nemo?

IF false perculas are only tank raised, then what happens when they are released into the wild? Do they magically change species? (read this off somewhere)
that isnt true. perhaps the place you read it from were only selling tank raised ones. many of the false percs in the hobby are tank raised because they are so easy to breed and there are so many breeders around, they are easy to get their hands on.
but there are wild ocellaris clownfish

No it was a rhetorical question :). it was saying that false percs are NOT ONLY tank raised, they can be found in the wild. it gave you a question to make you think about it and understand that they cant be different species just because one is tank raised.

so when i get two perculas when they are young, is it 100% i will get a male and female?

with percula or ocellaris, it pretty much is garenteed.
and musho: i knew it was a retorical question, but i still thought you were just questioning them so i was just adding some feed back. sorry about that :)

however, this doesnt mean they will breed any time soon or at all, it is just her job to keep their area clean.

Typical!!! :headshake2:

...:grinyes:

awww. No wonder the female has been biting the crap out of my hand when I rearange the rocks where she "cleans up" lol-or is she just mean? I think the male is a saddleback.

They really bite your hand when its in the tank? At one of my lfs they have a pair of maroons and they said dont put your hand in, they will draw blood. Is this true or bullcrap?

true. maroons are the most aggressive clown species. i had a friend who had a perc draw blood. ive seen pictures of medium sized maroons doing it. i had a small oen that owuld nip, but not bad. i can only imagine what a good sized 4 inch female maroon could do...

well it's only the female I mean ONLY. !! it's usually when i am moving my hand . It doesn't hurt but it's a little shock to get something like that when you are trying to clean the tank for them. When I said it doesn't hurt....well it does a little. Once it drew a little blood but nothing to be aware of.

Clowns are conditional hermaphrodites. They start of male and stay male as long as there is a dominant female. If the female dies, the dominant male will change into a female. I've always been told to buy a small 1.5" and a 2.5" clown to have a high rate of getting a pair. If the 2.5" isn't female already, it will change and keep the smaller one as a male.
Not true. They are not born with both sexes at once, hence they are not Hermaphrodites. they are all born males. Then one in the group or pair becomes larger and turns into a female. But once they become female they cannot turn back to a male.
